Cross Country Championships

We would like to congratulate our P7 and P6 Cross Country Teams who all finished in the top ten schools in the team events. Of special mention was Teyla from P6 who finished second in her race. We would like to thank  Mrs Espie and Miss Walker for all their hard work on coaching the teams.

Pheonix Taekwondo

We would like to thank Scott Macmillan from Pheonix Taekwondo (based here at JHPS) for the taster sessions to various classes in school. We have been working with Scott to create a new pathway club. The club begins on the 26th of November. All pupils who had taster sessions have been  offered an opportunity to attend the after school club.  The club also looks to involve parents/carers as participants if they so wish. The club has proven to be very popular and Scott has agreed to run an additional 4-week block next term to accommodate everyone that has applied.

Sports Committee

We are pleased to present our Sports Committee for the new session with pupils from P4-7. Additionally, our new Active Schools Coordinator- Cheryl Fulton and Debbie Mutter from the Parent Council. We have held our first meeting and will be getting into the action planning for the new session in the weeks ahead. 🙌

Sports Leaders

Last year we trialled the use of P7 Sports Leaders and it turned out to be a successful initiative. Therefore, as part of the work we are doing on DYW we have opted to make this into the ‘Sports Leader Award Scheme’, whereby Leaders will have the opportunity to gain an award at the end of session, which will be graded into Bronze (10 hours), Silver (15hours) and Gold (20 hours). Leaders will support in PE, at Intra House Competitions, run P1-3 Sports Day and offer ‘play games’ at breaks and lunch. This is of course optional and the pupils get some catch up time at the end of the week if they have missed anything.

Phoenix Taekwondo

We would like to thank Scott McMillan, from Phoenix Taekwondo, for popping along to talk to our P7s about what it takes to succeed in sport. The P7s have chosen Sport as their topic this term and wanted to hear all about the skills and attributes needed to become a professional athlete.  The ex world champion was only too happy to share his experiences and even managed time to take on the Tiddlywink Champions from both classes! Scott will be back later in the session to offer taster session to various other stages and hopefully will be providing an afterschool club at some point also. 🥋

Traverse Panels

On Friday we had a grand opening of our new traverse panels. Parents from the Parent Fundraising Group alongside our P7 Sports Leaders were present to officially open the use of the new panels and the leaders got to show the parents how to use the panels and the additional new athletics equipment they had purchased. We would like to thank the group for the phenomenal amount of fundraising they did to purchase the equipment, which can now be enjoyed by the whole school community #goteamjimmy
