Primary 5a

WEEK 9 – March 8-12th

Unfortunately, I’m back to being unwell. The maths meetings have been cancelled today and I’ll check in with the kids via video as soon as I have a voice back.  This week we will concentrate on revision tasks to help get pupils ready for next week.

I would suggest going back to your assignments (maths first) and complete any tasks that haven’t been handed in. Then do the same for literacy tasks.  Complete  your online program tasks (sumdog, freckle, studyladder, splashlearn, and Epic.

Each day I will add a daily grid to the Weekly grid channel on teams. I may need to make changes depending on how I’m feeling.  Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all back in the classroom!  Ms H

March 1st-5th

I’m on the mend!  Feeling a little better each day.  Well done to all of the P5a pupils and families for managing through the week so well.  Thank you for that.  This week, meetings will resume as normal.

Here is the grid for this week. Pupils have this on their main P5a Team page as well so they can more easily refer to it there.  WEEK 8 March 1-5th

Feb 22nd – 26th

I’m feeling a bit under the weather so this week I will be putting up a daily grid on the TEAMS grid page channel.  Our class meetings will still continue at the regular times for each maths group.   UPDATE: maths meetings are cancelled today, sorry.
I am including a link to the STEM activity pack for you.  This is a big file, but has so many learning activities in it!  Pupils should prepare to attempt 3 or more activities from the pack or other worksheets with STEM opportunities on Wednesday or Thursday.  Click on link below to open.

STEM challenge-cards

Pupils were asked to complete a plan to create a rocket or spacecraft of some sort using recycle materials and things from home.  I would like to see these completed this week, and it would be nice if kids could show their creation on Friday.

Feb 18th – 19th (Week 6)

Week 6 grid is here  (below) and in pupil email.

This is a short week so I have planned some engaging activities and tasks to keep pupils busy learning for the next couple of days.

I realise that our Friday meeting doesn’t always suit everyone, so I’m having two live meeting this Friday. Times are listed on Grid.  Pupils should choose only one of the meetings to attend. I’m looking forward to having a chat with all of them.

The pupils have asked to do more STEM projects like last week. I am happy to put more STEM activities up but I realise you may need time to locate particular supplies so I will upload the activities to this page over the weekend.  The pupils seemed to really enjoy themselves  and a lot of learning was definitely happening!

Feb 8-12th (Week 5)

Week 5 grid is here  (below) and in pupil email.

The kids have been doing a great job using Class Notebook in assignments.   It mean they don’t have to take photos or upload other things because it’s all done on one screen and is electronically submitted directly to me.

Meetings this week:

Fantastic Group Video chat on TEAMS:  Monday @ 9:30

Brilliant Group Video Chat on TEAMS: Monday @ 10:00

Amazing/Delightful Video Chat on TEAMS: Monday @ 11:00

Whole class video chat @2:00 Friday on regular team page.

All maths assignments  are uploaded to the maths group Teams daily @ 9:03, while all other work is scheduled to upload @9:03 daily on the regular page.

February lockdown Feb 8-12th

I don’t think there is anything else to add now that everything comes to your assignments daily, except Epic. Epic looks to be a more useful and well stocked kids library.  I have put assignments on there for pupils to read this week.  Please follow the instructions on the grid.  This is a free service…you do not need to sign up for anything.  The pupils will use a code (on grid) to access their profile.

Here are the STEM challenges for Thursday Feb 11th.

5 Stem challenges

Feb 1st-5th

Week 4 grid is here and in pupil email.  I am trying a new component of Teams called Class Notebook.  You can see this on the general page of our Teams pages in the middle near the top.  Using this may make it easier for pupils to edit work on the screen.  Pupils should open these assignments as usual and read the instructions,  but then open the document attached and it will direct you to use notebook…the document will open, pupils use text or drawing tools to complete work and then close. This automatically submits the work for me to mark.  During our Monday morning video chat, I will go over this with the pupils.  Thank you for your patience.  I’m looking for the best possible way for all pupils to be able to access/submit work.

Attachments with the tasks can be emailed out as well, but I’d really like the pupils to have a go with Class notebook first.  If they can’t access it 1) I may be able to help or 2) they can continue the way they already know.  It’s def worth a try.

January 25-29th

Week 3 grid is here, and in pupil email. There is a picture of it or you can click the link to open it/save.  You can complete work using pen/paper and email me a photo or scan of it, or upload to Assignment teams channel (don’t forget to attach and upload).

I am trying out the live video for maths this week.  Please bear with me…this is also new to me.  Pupils should check in on the p5a general channel and then proceed to the lockdown channel as usual.  I will give further instructions for video chat there. I have set up a new TEAM for each maths group and they will use this for the maths input only.  I also know the times listed on the grid may not be suitable for everyone but hopefully will suit most of you.

I am still quite short of assignments and in fact, am looking for 120 pieces of missing work not including Giglets (33)  and other online learning tasks such as Sumdog, Splashlearn and Kahoot .  Please look over the assignments and grid tasks to ensure yours are handed in.
What I want you to complete to the best of your ability is on the Grid.  I will not be adding new tasks until the next week.
There is a list of OPTIONAL activities in a list further down that will further develop and enhance your skills and understanding.  (These are for practise, so please do not submit them).

What I want you to complete to the best of you ability is on the Grid.  I will not be adding new tasks until the next week.
