As a cycle friendly school we like to promote cycling events happening in the local area.
Over the weekend a round of the UK series of cyclocross racing will be taking place at Irvine Beach Park.
Cyclocross bikes look like road bikes but with knobbly tyres and race on grass sand and mud round a course.
Races last about 40 mins to an hour and are great from a spectator point of view as there are multiple viewing points and as its a lapped race you get to see the whole race.
The event is on both Saturday and Sunday all day with age category groups on the Saturday and the main races featuring pro riders on the Sunday. The event is totally free to attend and their will be food stalls on site.
Details can be found at British Cycling.
If you go along for the 10.30am race on Saturday morning (40+) you may even see a certain Mr McCracken (pictured) racing.
