P1 Maths A Fair Share

We have been learning about sharing equally in maths. We can share items in groups of 2, 3 and 4. A fair share  means that everybody  gets the same amount.

Exploring Europe

This week we started our new Social Studies topic on Europe.  We looked at the position of Europe on a world map and compared its size with the other continents.  Then we located some of the countries in Europe.  A few pupils could identify Italy, UK and France from the shape of their outline.

We have also been practising for the Sports Championships which begin on Monday.  Good luck to all P6s and P7s.

P7

We have been experimenting with different art materials to complete our fruit bowl picture. First we drew a fruit bowl from still life and used gouache paint to add colour. The bowls were designed using paint or collage materials. Finally, we used watercolour paint to create the background. We are very happy with the results!

Some of the class made origami rabbits with Mr Du. We had to fold the paper very precisely.

Coding, using SCRATCH, has been our main focus on the computers. We can create games with a sprite that collects items while being chased by enemy sprites. We are becoming more confident and started to develop our own games.

p6/5 Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

This week, we enjoyed taking part in the BBC Live Lesson as part of the Blue Planet television show. We learned all about how our oceans are being polluted by plastic and what we an try and do to help. Turtles can’t tell the difference between their food jellyfish, and plastic bags so end up eating plastic. Card can dissolve in water but plastic will never disappear.

Here are some tips for you at home:

  • stop using plastic straws
  • reuse plastic bottles
  • don’t use plastic bags
  • recycle plastic instead of binning it

p2 Outdoor Numeracy

This week we took our numeracy work out to the playground. We worked in groups and had great fun creating a shop. We sold things like leaves, sticks and pine cones. We had to make price tags and take turns to be a customer or a shopkeeper. We also had turns at playing hopscotch which helped us count on and back. The other thing we enjoyed doing was drawing our own number lines with chalk. We tried to count in 2’s and took turns to find missing numbers. It was great to be learning and playing outside.
