Next week there will be no Home Learning activities due to the February holiday π. This means we will miss Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Day! π₯
I’ve made a post for you to look at that includes a recipe and method to give you a start in perfecting your pancakes before next Tuesday or to give you time to get the ingredients. Id love to see your pancake creations!
Playing is a crucial part of how childrenβs minds develop and how they make sense of the confusing world around them, especially the situation we are in at the moment, letting their imaginations run wild will help them cope during this time and keep them emotionally and physically healthy.
Firstly today, we are going to think about some emotions or occasions that have felt a bit scary at times. Maybe it was the first day of nursery, a trip to the doctors or maybe it was mum leaving to go to work. Think about how you felt, where in your body did you feel this worry? What do you think this worry would look like?
Letβs draw it!
What do you think this worry looks like?
What colour do you think it is?
How big is it?
What does it feel like?
Now it is on paper, what would you say to your worry? Is there anything that you can do to make you feel better?
Role Play is a great way to learn to cope with emotions as children can act out their emotions in a situation where they are in control.
Today for some role play, letβs be superheroes! π¦Έπ»ββοΈπ¦Έπ½ββοΈπ₯ I want you to make your own superhero costume using whatever you can find around the house, it could be a pillowcase for a cape or goggles as your super power glasses.
Once you have your costume and are a powerful superhero you can take your worry drawing and crumple it up!
What else can you do with your new powers?
We would love to see pictures of your drawings or if you dressed up if you would like to send to myself or your childβs key worker π
Good morning boys and girls, today letβs kick start our day with a bit of energetic exercise!
Joe Wicks is back again with a morning workout every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. He will go live at 9am this morning, however you can find any of his workouts on his YouTube page βThe Body Coach TVβ https://youtube.com/c/TheBodyCoachTV – βPE with Joeβ
In the ECC, the children also enjoy joining in with The Learning Station, in particular, βShake your sillies outβ: https://youtu.be/NwT5oX_mqS0
Staying active and healthy has numerous benefits for children, itβs important for us to instill this mindset and habit from an early age.
Just some of the benefits of physical activity include:
Strengthens muscles and bones
HelpsΒ to develop coordination
Enhances concentration and learning
MakesΒ children feel good
Think about how you feel after exercising. You might feel a bit warm or sweaty. You might need a drink of water.Β Try feeling your heart beating before and after exercise. Is there a difference to the strength or speed that it is beating?
Can you challenge yourself to a whole week of exercise? This can be anything from Joe Wicks, playing on a trampoline or a daily walk.
I am also going to take up this challenge and keep a record of what exercise I have done each day πͺπΌ
Will you manage to do some good exercise today? You can email myself or your childβs key worker as we would love to see how you get on.
Environmental print is the print of everyday life. It’s the print that appears on signs, labels and logo’s. It is on shop signs, street signs and food packages. Learning to read environmental print is an important pre-literacy skill.
Children can learn to read in shops, out on walks or in the home. They can identify their favourite box of cereal, snacks, films etc. It is an important step in learning to read print and helps bridge the connection between letters and the first efforts to read.
Have a look when you’re on a walk, what print do you know? What can you find around your house? Can you pick your favourites? I would love to see what prints you can identify.
I’ve also included an Environmental Print alphabet, you may recognise these prints from our wall in the ECC…. did you also spot them in Michelle’s video yesterday?
Good morning everyone. Β I you are doing well and enjoying the activities to do from home this week.
In the ECC we work at developing our number recognition and ordering numbers 0-10. *Always remember 0 when counting and be aware that this represents a value too*
Can you see what numbers you can find in your home, garden or on a walk? Where did you find them? Can you name them?
Can you draw numbers on pieces of paper and order them 0-10 then 10-0. You can change this to suit whatever your child is comfortable with ie. 0-3 or 0-5
As an extra challenge can you then match amounts of objects to these numbers.Β Here is an example below.
You can keep me updated on how you are getting on or ask any questions by emailing:
Due to the current restrictions we are unfortunately unable to welcome parents into the ECC to follow what your child has been up to. We have been having fun learning about various things that have taken the childrenβs interest. Here is a little look at how busy your children have been over the past couple of weeks.
Keeping active at Gym and Outdoor play
After finding some creatures in our garden, the children questioned what else we might find if we went on a bug hunt and had an interest in other minibeasts.
We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar which inspired some artwork and snack
We learned that Beeβs have 5 eyes which Callan remembered when making his own and how they make honeyβ¦β¦ which we even got to taste
Josh has told the RED & BLUE groups about finding chestnuts that fell off a tree at his grandmas house, we then looked at some conkers which led to an interesting discussion about Autumn. We will be taking this learning forward.

Whilst outside, the children started talking about how the weather had changed. This led to an interest in learning about different weathers, assessing and recording the weather each day.
This inspired some art, we made rainy and stormy pictures
We experimented to see the effect the sun had on ice, how much rain fellΒ and what the wind did to bubbles
Harrison brought in some leaves that he found to show the YELLOW, PURPLE & GREEN groups.Β This led to a great discussion about Autumn. We will be taking this learning forward.
