ENVIRONMENTAL PRINT
šŸ§ƒšŸ„«āš ļøšŸš‘

Environmental print is the print of everyday life. It’s the print that appears on signs, labels and logo’s. It is on shop signs, street signs and food packages. Learning to read environmental print is an important pre-literacy skill.

Children can learn to read in shops, out on walks or in the home. They can identify their favourite box of cereal, snacks, films etc. It is an important step in learning to read print and helps bridge the connection between letters and the first efforts to read.

Have a look when you’re on a walk, what print do you know? What can you find around your house? Can you pick your favourites? I would love to see what prints you can identify.

I’ve also included an Environmental Print alphabet, you may recognise these prints from our wall in the ECC…. did you also spot them in Michelle’s video yesterday?

Take care,
