Primary 5/6 had a lovely experience during our visit to Hallhouse Care Home last Friday as part of our Reading Schools Buddy Reading Project. The pupils had the opportunity to read stories and share conversations with the residents. The visit helped pupils to build confidence when reading aloud as well as empathy and understanding of the residents needs. Super work P5/6!
The Primary 5/6 pupils showcased exceptional kindness and respect as they paired up with their ECC buddies for a shared reading session on Friday afternoon. They demonstrated excellent patience and genuine enthusiasm when helping their buddy to pick a book then reading it to them. The pupils really helped to create a nurturing environment. Not only did they do an excellent job of demonstrating expression and passion when reading, they also demonstrated our school’s values of kindness and respect throughout the whole visit – true role models for our younger children.
P5/6 have started a new PE block focusing on rugby skills.
We are very lucky to have some rugby players in our class so this week Mason demonstrated leadership skills by explaining then demonstrating the game ‘rabbits and rats’ which continued our practice on using different movements to evade our opponents. The game was enjoyed by all pupils and incorporated a bit of fun competition.

Primary 5/6 have been learning lots about about the link between fractions, decimals and percentages. They were able to use their prior knowledge of how to calculate fraction amounts to then make links between fractions and percentages and calculate percentages of a quantity. Super efforts today with all of their tasks!
Recently Primary 5/6 learned about different types of Scottish music and Scottish musicians. They were surprised at all the talent that has come from their own country. Each pupil researched and created a fact file on a different Scottish musician or band. They then worked in groups to create body percussion that went along with some Scottish children’s songs. After this they demonstrated it to the class and had great fun doing so.

This year’s panto was another success. The pupils had a great morning visiting the Palace Theatre to watch Jack and the Beanstalk. There was lots of laughter and smiles all round. One of our P5/6 pupils even got to go up on stage and show some dance moves!
Primary 5/6 discussed the Scottish tradition of first footing then made First Foot bags to sell at the Christmas fayre using donations we received of Irn Bru and shortbread from Waitrose in Newton Mearns.
They were also super when helping out at the Christmas Fayre last week.
They were responsible for running all of the class and ECC stalls. They were cheery and welcoming to all of the parents/carers and members of the public that attended our fayre and they should be very proud of themselves.
Additionally, any parents that managed to attend the fayre got to listen to the pupils singing and I am sure you will agree that Primary 5/6 did an excellent job when singing their songs (Step into Christmas and I Wish it Could be Christmas Every Day) and we hope you enjoyed listening!
Recently Mrs Ross and Mrs Wilson held a whole school Reading Schools assembly where pupils from each class shared what they have been reading with the rest of the school. They showed other pupisl their book, discussed what they liked or disliked about it and answered any questions about it. These three pupils from Primary 5/6 were very confident and enthusiastic when sharing their books and thoughts. Well done!
It was great to sit down with the pupils and enjoy our Christmas lunch together. Lots of clean plates meant extra ice cream was given out much to the delight of the Primary 5/6 pupils.
