Our First Term

This term in Primary 6/7 we are working on a variety of new and interesting things. Our first blog post will let you know what we’ll be doing until the October holidays:

Literacy

We are reading the C.S. Lewis classic The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. We are using the book as a stimulus across Reading, Writing and Talking and Listening. So far we have written diary entries and are now starting to study the characters in depth. This will also be explored in our Expressive Arts. As we are two classes coming together, we will be taking part in Literature Circles to discuss the book. This will allow us find out different peoples’ opinions as well as develop different strategies for learning about a book.

Spelling will take place through class and home work, discovering how the phonemes that we learned about in the early years of school continue to impact our use of language as we advance through school.

Maths

In our first term the class will be working on recognising and applying Maths in the world around us. This will involve studying patterns and relationships, crossing over with our Art lessons, as well as studying Shape, Angle and Symmetry.

Individual groups are currently working on Division, Fractions, Multiplication and Addition. Make sure to ask your child about which area they are covering!

Science

Our class has just started a topic on the five senses: taste, touch, sight, smell and hearing. We will be investigating  the sensory organs that allow our brains to take in information, their structure inside our bodies and the various impacts the outside world can have on them.

Health and Wellbeing

We started our year building a Class Charter, deciding which Rights were the most important to keep our class a safe, productive and positive place to be. We will be learning about Badminton in PE with Mr McLaughlin, and please have a look at Mr Bertoncini’s blog to find out about our Hockey plans.

Religious Education

Our Primary 6 children will be starting on their journey to gaining their Pope Francis Faith Award, as Primary 7 continue along their journey. The first gift we will be learning about is Piety: our ability to treat the world God has created for us with respect. Alongside this we will be building our faith community, learning about the new people in our class and the different faith journeys that we are all on.

Thanks for reading our blog, make sure to check back regularly as we update you throughout the year!
