Weekly Check -In

Morning boys and girls,

We hope you have all had a lovely long weekend with your families and enjoyed the sunshine again! Mrs Eccleston and I have been busy with our families.

We went a big family cycle through woods close to us and finished at some mountain bike jumps which Sam, Beth and Zack loved! We even found a rainbow painted on a tree.

Zack made a fruit smoothie for everyone and was practicing halving fruit.

We found a place where we could get sushi delivered to our door so we were all very excited and it was delicious!

Beth has to teach the younger Brownies on Zoom a Disney craft activity so she decided to make a pencil holder, Minnie Mouse themed.

Zack wants to learn basketball so we have been challenging him to bounce the ball as many times as he can without stopping.

We bought a mini greenhouse and have been planting, strawberries, tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers.

Sam was challenged by his PE teacher to see how many toilet rolls he could jump over, he managed 9!

Zack and I made a den and played games in it with a torch light, he loved it!

We watched an art programme to draw a monkey it was great fun.

Mrs Eccleston has been really busy too :

This week we have been completing some arts and crafts and STEM activities. We made origami animals and puppets. Then we made fortune tellers and paper aeroplanes. I need to work on my design as mine flew the least distance.

The girls made a ‘lockdown’ jar and they filled it with things they would like to do. Ruby made a STEM poster and we made gingerbread men, a lemon drizzle cake, crepes and a Victoria sponge cake.

Ruby went on a search around the house to find items with 0, 1, 2 or more than 2 lines of symmetry then we filmed messages for their teachers to put into an IMovie compilation with the other members of their class.

Our plants are beginning to grow now and we planted some more seeds in the garden. Hope you are all well and enjoyed the break. We are all glad to see the sunshine back!

Weekly Hello!

Good morning P2/3,

We hope you have had another great week despite the weather. Hopefully you have still managed to get outdoors to complete some of your Health and Wellbeing activities this week.

Mrs Eccleston and I have had another busy week with our families.

Sam has been really missing our visits to Yo Sushi, so we decided to make our own sushi at home, we think we did quite well in our first attempt! Zack has been learning about pirates during home learning, we found a pirate jigsaw and had lots of fun building it! We had a virtual game of bingo with a few other families and there was even prizes to be won.  Beth has been helping lots around the house and has started to empty the dishwasher for me, I hope you have all been helping at home lots as well! Zack and I had fun dancing to the pirates on Just Dance, I know you all enjoy Just Dance for kids too. We also created our own volcano and had fun watching it erupt! We made our own pancakes for breakfast on Saturday and since it was the weekend Zack and Beth had chocolate spread  on theirs. Sam has been setting up football drills for Zack in the garden which he enjoys doing. I have still been trying to exercise everyday and go a run with Sam although he leaves me after the first 5 minutes as I am still too slow!

Mrs Eccleston has had lots of fun since last week too. This week she has been building structures, playing games, walking Rocky and playing on skateboards. They were able to get ice cream from a local cafe that has just opened for take-away only. That was delicious and an exciting treat. They tried to make skittle popcorn but it tasted a bit strange. They also made some chocolate and honey slices, pancakes and a banana loaf. They have also been busy with school work so they are looking forward to the holiday weekend.

Whole School Health Week

Morning P2/3,

We hope you have had a lovely weekend with your families and managed to get outside as much as possible, even although the weather hasn’t been as good.

This week there is a whole school focus on Health Week. Please see the ‘Learning Grid’ below with all your additional attachments to help complete your tasks. Thank you to Mrs Ross who has worked hard to create most of your activities. Have fun and we look forward to seeing all your Health Week photos.

The staff have created a Sports Day video for you all to watch. You might want to challenge yourself for your own Fenwick Primary Sports  Day. We hope  you enjoy watching it. 😊

The Sum Dog contest starts today…good luck!

Well done Harriet and Amelia for getting your Blue Peter badge.

Sum Dog contest

The contest starts tomorrow!

Sumdog’s East Ayrshire Maths Contest is almost here! It starts tomorrow at 8am, and finishes at 8pm on May 21.

Here are some things to keep in mind during the contest:

  • Students can play at any time.
  • For the score to count, the East Ayrshire Maths Contest activity must be showing in the green panel on the left of the student’s screen when they click to start each game.
  • Their scores are based on correct answers.
  • A class’s score is the average of the scores from all students from that class who take part.
  • To appear on the leaderboard, at least 10 students from a class need to play.
  • As some students have limited computer access, every student is limited to 1000 contest questions. However, their free logins let them keep playing other activities afterwards.

Wednesday Check In

Morning P2/3,

We hope your week is going well so far! It’s so good it has still stayed dry. It’s been lovely to hear from so many of you through emails and comments on the blog posts. We have both been very busy again since we last posted. Here is what we have been up to.

I had a great week and long weekend and to top it off it was my birthday on Saturday. It  was a great day with lots of lovely surprises. I got a surprise afternoon tea which was delicious. My family all decorated the house for me and bought me lovely presents and beautiful flowers. I had 2 family zoom calls and lots of calls and messages from my friends which was lovely. People make a big effort during lockdown birthdays! We have played lots of games, including Uno and cards. We got a slip and slide for the garden so Sam, Beth and Zack have been having loads of fun on that. They created their own one first and then we agreed to buy them one that stretches the full garden. I might have a shot too if the weather gets hotter again! Beth and I baked Paradise Slice which was delicious. Zack loves bouncing on the trampoline so I have been on it lots with him, it is a great workout! Zack and I  used stones to write his spelling words which he really enjoyed doing.  I also enjoyed celebrating VE Day with all the other Fenwick Staff during an afternoon video call.

Mrs Eccleston has had a busy week too, she baked with the girls for our VE Day afternoon tea. The girls wanted to try and make cake pops and blueberry pancakes. The blueberry pancakes reminded them of something from ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ as when you bit into them the blueberries exploded in your mouth! They tried on new face masks and went dog walking and cycling. They also had fun in the paddling pool and had a competition to see who could make the longest daisy chain! They enjoyed being outside in the garden over the holiday weekend playing cards, badminton, swing ball and word association games. This week they are back into a routine of school work and work.

Learning Grid 11th May

We hope you have had a good weekend. Have a look at the Learning Grid below with suggested activities to try.

There are related links to worksheets that you may wish to print. These also have answer sheets with them. Choose the level that suits you or try a harder level to challenge yourself.

I hope you enjoy the Twiggle story and investigating the ice. Good luck with the 500 mile challenge!

Have fun! From Mrs Eccleston and Mrs McCallum
