To all P7 parents and carers,

The Roberts Burns Academy will be hosting information evenings to discuss the transition process for your child into secondary school. This information evening will be held virtually via V-Scene.  Details of how to join using your computer or phone are attached to this message. The meeting will be hosted by Mr McGurn (Depute Headteacher), supported by members of the Pupil Support Team who are leading the transition activities.

The meeting for Catrine PS is on Tuesday 11th May at 6.30pm. 

The purpose of the meeting is to go over the arrangements for this year’s transition programme, including school visits in June, as well as answering frequently asked questions about the school day at the Robert Burns Academy.

Please note that both Catrine PS and ECC are closed on Monday 3rd May for the Bank Holiday and on Thursday 6th May for an Inservice Day.

Leighton and Ellie took part in the Kiltwalk on Sunday 25 April and along with Calvin and Bailey they all walked 12 miles!!!

They raised £540.00 for cash for kids in Ayrshire.

Catrine Primary School is extremely proud of these students!!

All classes have enjoyed a brilliant first week back to Term 4.

We’ve all taken our learning outside in the glorious sunshine, and classes have been out all over the village having adventures and rescuing hedgehogs (ask Primary 1/2!!)  Please click onto our class GLOW blogs to see some photos of the fun we’ve been having.

The staff have been so pleased with the confident and enthusiastic way in which all of our pupils have returned, and we are looking forward to a busy term.

We are very excited to have acquired some new equipment for our infant playground to encourage loose parts play which helps develop skills such as creativity, problem solving and curiosity as well as developing social skills.  Loose parts are things like tyres, wooden planks, crates and plastic guttering.  Loose parts lets children play in many different ways – anything from making a pirate ship to building an assault course – the possibilities are endless!

P1/2 and P2 will be spending lots of time outdoors exploring this new equipment and might get a bit dirty! Pupils should come to school every day prepared to play outside. School uniform tops and jumpers should still be worn but children can wear trackies, leggings or older bottoms which you don’t mind getting dirty.

We look forward to seeing our pupils back tomorrow and can’t wait to see what they create with our new equipment.

After the Easter holidays, starting the 19th April for 4 weeks, the roads around the school will be closed between 8.45am and 9.30am and again between 2.30pm – 3.20pm. This is to help to improve safety for pupils and also reduce pollution.  Remember you might need to leave earlier in the morning and after school if you’re driving a car. Remember it’s for all our safety and will help our environment.

P1/2, P3 and P5/6 will finish at 2.30pm.

P2, P4/5 and P6/7 will finish at 2.40pm.

Primary 7 is continuing to raise funds for their leavers hoodies.

We are running a competition to guess how many eggs are in the jar. Each guess costs £1 which is payable through ParentPay. The closest wins the jar with the winner being announced next Thursday 1st April.

We are also having a dress down day next Thursday 1st April. Pupils can dress down for a donation of £1 also paid through ParentPay.

We’re delighted that Barry Holmes, our Active Schools Coordinator, is coming to school to work with us next week.  In line with all current H&S guidelines, Barry will be working with every class outdoors on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  P1/2 and P2 will play fun games, P3 and P4/5 will focus on Team Building exercises and P5/6 and P6/7 will complete their Leadership course that was started in Term 1. Each class will use their own PE equipment and all appropriate precautions will be taken.

As all of these sessions will take place outdoors all pupils should come to school next week wearing their school uniform up top (polo shirts and sweatshirts) and trackies/leggings and trainers so that they can take a full part in Barry’s activities.

What a brilliant day we’ve had at Catrine Primary, with all of our pupils in Primary 4, 5, 6 and 7 returning to their classes.  Our playground has been full of children playing together, with some pupils seeing their pals for the first time since December!  We are so proud of the way the children of Catrine have coped during this last lockdown, and we are very grateful to the help and support that friends and family provided with their home learning.

It’s just great to have our pupils back where they belong!
