Walking to and from school

With the darker mornings and poor weather – if your child is allowed to walk to and from school, now is a good time to have a wee conversation to reinforce the rules about walking straight to/home from school and not speaking to strangers.

If you are running late to collect your child at the end of the school day, please phone the office and arrangements can be made.

The safety of our pupils is a main priority, and by working together we can help to keep our children safe.

Class Mugs

Please find below a copy of the class proofs sent to “School Bears” for production of our class mugs. The mugs cost £6.00 each and you can purchase as many as you want. Orders and payment must be paid through ParentPay by Thursday 19 November to confirm delivery before the Christmas Holiday (barcoded paypoint letters can be issued by telephoning the school office). Please accept our apologies for the short payment time but this is to ensure prompt delivery. If you wish any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Book Week Scotland 16th – 20th November

We are celebrating Book Week Scotland in our classes this week, with lots of focused activities on books, authors, illustrations, characters, story lines and plots…

Your child’s homework will also focus on books and stories, so we thank you in advance for finding the time to read and discuss books with them at home.

Our House Captains Challenge on Friday afternoon will also have a book theme.

Happy Reading!!

GLOW accounts for Primary 1 and Primary 2 pupils

Unfortunately, due to national guidance and data protection Education Scotland have directed that parents/carers can no longer have access to GLOW accounts.

As a result of this directive, we have updated all our infant pupil log-in details – this means that pupils can still upload their class work and targets onto their e-portfolio in class, but that parents/carers will not be able to access this at home or upload photos of their child’s homework onto their GLOW account.

Primary 1/2 and Primary 2 homework details will continue to be updated weekly on their class blogs under the ‘Home Learning’ tab. Miss Burleigh and Miss McLean will also continue to regularly post class photos and learning highlights on their class blog.  We are disappointed that these changes have to be made but we must follow the national guidelines

Please note that these changes only apply to infant pupils in Primary 1 and Primary 2.

Please contact the school for any further information.  Thanks for your continued support.

Getting Ready For Winter

In preparation for snow and ice we have updated our premises priority clearance plan. Our Janitor will ensure that the highlighted areas are cleared on snowy and icy days to let our pupils and staff enter and exit in a safe manner.

All pupils, staff and visitors are reminded to keep to the cleared areas and be respectful of current social distancing guidelines. Please click on the PDF below for further information:

Reminder

Please note that tomorrow – Friday 13th is a dress down day. We will be taking class photographs for our mugs as part of our “festive fundraiser”. Permission forms MUST be returned tomorrow to enable your child to take part. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Thank you.

Permission forms issued today

Thanks to everyone who gave such positive feedback about our joint fundraising effort with the Parent Council to organise “class photo mugs” for sale as a festive fundraiser. Due to the overwhelming support we are delighted to go ahead with this idea. Friday will be a dress down day for the whole school as we will be taking class photos then. We will be sending the photographs to a company called “School Bears” to produce our mugs. We need your written consent to pass your child’s photograph onto this company, so all children are being issued with a paper consent form today (please note that this company only has permission to use the photographs for our class mugs).

In summary, we need all permission forms back by Thursday 12 November so we can take the photographs on Friday 13 to get production rolling. Mugs will be available to order on ParentPay from Monday 16 November at a cost of £6.00 each (multiple mugs can be ordered). All monies MUST be paid on ParentPay by Friday 20 November to ensure delivery before school closes for Christmas Holidays.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

Fundraising Event

Catrine Primary School along with Catrine Parent Council would like to organise class photo mugs for every class in the school that would then be sold via Catrine Primary School ParentPay as a Festive Fundraiser (£6,00 per mug). The mug would have a class photo on one side and “All the best from Catrine Primary School” on the other side.

The company we plan to use is “School Bears”. If you want your child to take part in this fundraiser a permission form will need to be completed (issued on Monday 9 November). Also, payment in advance through ParentPay is required before we can place any orders. Multiple mugs can be purchased.

We realise this is a bit different, therefore we are asking your opinion and appreciate any feedback from you. Please complete below:

On-line return

Please note that your child(ren)  WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS on-line activities until you complete the form below. Please complete as soon as possible. Thank you to all parents/carers who have already completed the form.

To prevent paper returns, please read the information below and complete the online return:

Victorian Day – Wednesday 4th November

As you know P5/6 has been learning all about the Victorian era and as part of our learning we explored what school life was like. To help us finish off our topic we are going to host a ‘Victorian School Day’.

The day will consist of lessons that were traditionally taught during the Victorian school day such as reading, writing and arithmetic as well as drill, hand inspections and bible study and prayer.

It is our hope that everyone will dress up for the day in keeping with our theme but please remember that the day is not intended to cost you any money so please reuse and recycle items you have or can borrow to create your child’s costume. Children can choose if they wish to dress as a poor or rich child or perhaps as a chimney sweep or farm hand – there are so many options.

Thank you for your support in making our topic come alive by supporting our Victorian School Day.

Many thanks

Mrs McCaig

What a great start we’ve had to Term 2. Our pupils have returned so confidently and have settled back into their class, playground and lunch routines easily.  We welcome back Miss Harrigan, COVID Recovery teacher, who will be working with both P2 and P3 this term.  Thanks to everyone for your enthusiastic support of our homework plans in each class.

As always, please get in touch via phone or email with any issues or concerns – we miss being able to welcome parents/carers into the school for Open Mornings/Afternoons and the teachers really enjoyed chatting with you during our recent Parent/Teacher phone calls before the October break.

Harvest Hush-In

What a lovely quiet afternoon we enjoyed at Catrine PS on Wednesday afternoon, with all of our pupils taking part in our Harvest Hush-In Sponsored Silence.  The children (and the staff!) enjoyed the quiet time to colour in, play games, do jigsaws, read books …. It was wonderful!

Thanks to everyone who has donated via ParentPay – the total of £204.50 has been raised for our School Funds.  Thanks for your continued support.
