Our ‘If you were an engineer what would you do?’ Leaders Award Winner
Congratulations to the winner of the ‘If you were an engineer what would you do?’ leaders award for 2024!
Shaun’s invention was entered along with 70,000 other applicants, went through two vigorous rounds of judging and was then selected as the P2 winner across Scotland!
We would like to also congratulate Ava Gilmour who was shortlisted for her invention for the P3 category.
STEM COMMITTEE
A huge well done to all of the members in our STEM committee for successfully promoting STEM learning across the school.
Thanks to our members, all classes have participated in STEM lessons created by the Maidsafe Foundation.
Additionally, all pupils from P2/3 upwards have entered the ‘If you were an engineer’ Leaders Award. This gave pupils the chance to think like engineers, coming up with a problem and creating a new invention for the solution. The pupils also wrote letters to explain why their invention should be built as a prototype by real engineers!
In our last committee meeting, the pupils engaged in a design challenge. We looked at the strength of eggs and what birds use to protect them. The pupils then used some of those ideas to build an egg protector which we then put to the test.
Take a look at our results!
STEM Committee
Our STEM committee have been hard at work trying to promote STEM learning across the whole school.
This week our STEM committee were able to think like engineers and built Mr Wonka’s factory.
The pupils were able to evaluate their designs and discuss their strengths and areas for improvement.
STEM Committee
For our last committee, our STEM group were trying to survive a zombie apocalypse!
The pupils were involved in building shelters that would keep them safe from zombie bites! They also investigated their fingerprints to ensure they were all human! Finally, the pupils created new inventions that would help keep them safe and would help to rebuild civilisation.
All pupils had a blast and enjoyed putting their science and investigative skills to work!
