Primary 4 have been busy making and selling popcorn cones as part of their ‘Poppin Popcorn’ enterprise project this week. The pupils have all worked so hard and have made an amazing profit of £54.15 which will go towards an end of term class party.

The JRSO Committee Group are organising a Walk to School Week on the 20th to the 24th of May.
Each day will have a different theme:
Mixed up Monday – wear odd socks.
Team up Tuesday- walk to school with a friend or family member.
Wacky Wednesday- wear your hair in a wacky way or crazy style.
Think about it Thursday- think about ways we can improve our community.
Freestyle Friday- wear your own clothes to school.
We look forward to seeing everyone taking part in Walk to School Week.

Yesterday the JRSO committee group were learning about the importance of wearing a helmet when riding a bike or scooter. We carried out a survey and found that out of the 17 pupils in our group:
We talked about the reasons for this and found that some pupils don’t own a helmet. The pupils that did own a helmet thought that they didn’t need to wear one or that it wasn’t cool.
We then designed our own helmets thinking about the colours we would choose and the safety features that we could add. Have a look at our designs.
We would encourage everyone to wear a helmet when you are riding a bike, scooter or even rollerblades/skates as it could save your life!

Our JRSO Committee Group organised a ‘Be Bright, Be Seen’ dress down day today and loved seeing all the brightly coloured clothes that pupils came to school wearing. It is important to remember that cars can’t always see us crossing the road as it is now much darker in the mornings and at night.
Our P6/7 Committee Group members chose a winner from each class for the brightest outfit. The winners were:

The Modern Languages Committee have been working so hard over the last few weeks and have been learning all about the French language, culture and festivals.
We started off our first committee meeting by talking about what we already knew about France and what we wanted to know. 
We learned some some facts about France and some French vocabulary. We learned how to say hello and goodbye in French and had lots of fun playing parachute games to practise the French words for colours.
We learned about the French festival of Mardi Gras and made our own Mardi Gras masks. They were amazing!
We learned about Easter traditions in France and got to try some French food. We tasted crepes, baguette, pain au chocolat, croissants, chocolate chip brioche and brie. It was delicious!
Between the 17th-21st May we will be doing a Walk to School week as a part of Road Safety week. Here is some information down below:

Junior Road Safety Officers
After the Easter holidays, starting the 19th April for 4 weeks, the roads around the school will be closed between 8.45am and 9.30am and again between 2.30pm – 3.20pm. This is to help to improve safety for pupils and also reduce pollution. Remember you might need to leave earlier in the morning and after school if you’re driving a car. Remember it’s for all our safety and will help our environment.

Here is the Avalon House Challenge for this week……….
Our House Captains and Vice Captains have been busy organising House Challenges for all pupils to take part in this term. The first House Challenge will take place on Friday afternoon. All pupils from P1-7 will be colouring/making a poppy picture to take home and display in their window for Remembrance Sunday. This is to remember all of the soldiers who have fought in wars to keep us safe. It would be great to see some photos of the poppies displayed in your windows. Pupils can post a picture on their Glow blog or send an e-mail to their class teacher. We look forward to them!
