Catrine Mini Kickers

Another great day for Health Week – P3 doing lots of activities in the cage at the Games Hall, P5/6 clearing and replanting our school flower and vegetable patches, ECC pupils up for their third transition visit with our P6 buddies providing loads of sporty games for them and our daily challenge – today it was 20 burpees!
All classes put in a great effort again – check out our class blogs for photos. Thanks to Keir, Lenore, Kaiden and Ashton for sending in photos of their family completing 20 starjumps at home yesterday.
The challenge is now back to our families to do 20 burpees at home later today. In partnership with the Parent Council we’re setting the challenges as a fundraising venture so thanks to everyone who has already logged onto Parentpay and made a donation towards school funds – it’s very much appreciated!
Tomorrow’s challenge – 20 lunges!
Thanks so much to Diane, Georgia’s mum, for organising for every pupil in Catrine PS to receive a tomato plant from her work, Sunnyside Nursery in Kilwinning.
Your child will be coming home today with a tomato plant and Diane has created a leaflet to give lots of advice to help with looking after the tomato plant at home.
So, read through the leaflet and we hope you’re enjoying home-grown tomatoes in your salads over the summer months!

It was brilliant to see so many of our pupils in their shorts and t-shirts today to kickstart our Health Week. Pupils are encouraged to wear suitable outdoor clothing all week so that they can take part in the many healthy and sporty activities planned for them throughout the week.
Today’s challenge was 20 Star jumps. All classes completed the challenge together in our main playground, and the efforts of all pupils – from P1 to P7 (and the staff!) was great. Check out our photos below.
The challenge is now back to our families to do 20 Star Jumps at home later today, with as many family members joining in as possible. In partnership with our Parent Council, we’re setting our challenge as a fundraising venture so it would be great if you could log onto Parentpay and make a small donation towards school funds throughout Health Week. All donations will be used to purchase future resources for Catrine PS pupils.
Tomorrow’s challenge – 20 Burpees!
C’mon Catrine – we can do it!

Catrine Primary School is celebrating all things healthy next week during our week long Health Week, and we’re having a sponsored Family Fun Fitness challenge too.
Pupils should come to school wearing sporty/outdoor clothes and footwear all week – check the weather to see if they need sunscreen or a jacket! – as they are going to be involved in a wide range of fun fitness activities every day (no football colours please).
Check out our class blogs for updates and photos of what your child’s class has been up to.
In partnership with our brilliant Parent Council, we’re also having a Sponsored Family Fun Fitness Challenge. Every day in school, every pupil will take part in a sporty challenge and we then ask that your family has a go at the challenge at home too. On Parentpay from Monday 7th June, there will be an option for you to pay in a sponsorship donation (an amount of your choice). All donations will be split between our school fund and the Parent Council and will go towards future events and resources for Catrine PS pupils.
It would be great if you could send in photos/videos of your family taking on each day’s challenge – in the house, the garden, up the Brae Tops, at the Voes, in the park – so that we can join them all together to create a video showcasing our families having fun!
Photos/videos can be posted on your child’s GLOW blog or can be emailed to judith.govans@east-ayrshire.gov.uk.
Daily Challenges …
Monday 7th – 20 star jumps
Tuesday 8th – 20 burpees

Report Cards and Phone Calls
We are delighted to be sending home report cards for every pupil on Friday 28th May, highlighting their progress and outlining the next steps for their learning.
Our teachers are also looking forward to having a follow-up phone call with every parent/carer to discuss the report cards and to talk about how your child is getting on after another school year which has included a mix of school and home learning.
Our parent/teacher telephone calls are taking place on Wednesday 2nd June so please phone the school on 01290 551436 from today to make an appointment to speak to your child’s teacher.
Appointments will last for 10 minutes and are available between 3.20-5.20pm and 6.00-7.50pm. Please let us know the best number for the teacher to phone you on.
Thank you. Mrs Govans
We’ll be back to two pupil entrances and exits from Monday 17th May as the repair work has been completed at our main pupil gate and stairs.
Thanks to everyone for your patience over the last two weeks. Building work will still be happening within the school grounds but shouldn’t affect the start and end of our school day again.
It’s great to see some pupils coming to school on their bikes and scooters now that our roads are quieter at drop-off and pick-up times. We recommend that pupils ALWAYS wear a helmet when out and about on their bikes.
Remember that it’s Walk to School week next week – here’s a reminder of our daily challenge.

Have a lovely weekend. Mrs Govans
To all P7 parents and carers,
The Roberts Burns Academy will be hosting information evenings to discuss the transition process for your child into secondary school. This information evening will be held virtually via V-Scene. Details of how to join using your computer or phone are attached to this message. The meeting will be hosted by Mr McGurn (Depute Headteacher), supported by members of the Pupil Support Team who are leading the transition activities.
The meeting for Catrine PS is on Tuesday 11th May at 6.30pm.
The purpose of the meeting is to go over the arrangements for this year’s transition programme, including school visits in June, as well as answering frequently asked questions about the school day at the Robert Burns Academy.
We look forward to seeing you. Mr McGurn, DHT
What a week – we’ve had lovely sunshine, snowy blizzards, flooded playgrounds and two days off!
Have a lovely weekend. Mrs Govans
As we enter the third week of the trial period of the School Streets initiative on the road around Catrine PS, Ayrshire Road Alliance are asking for feedback from residents, parents/carers, school staff, visitors to the school and the wider community.
Paper copies of the survey are being sent to all residents within the zone and we encourage all parents/carers of Catrine PS pupils to register their views online by clicking on the link below.
https://online1.snapsurveys.com/SchoolStreetsSurvey
The survey results will help to decide how EAC Traffic, Transportation and Safety proceed with this trial so we would encourage everyone to have their say. The survey closes at midnight on Sunday 9th May.
Thank you. Mrs Govans
We are delighted that some improvements are going to be taking place around our school and playground over the next month and we’ll have to make some changes to ensure our pupil safety during the course of the works.
From Tuesday 4th May the main pupil gate and stairs will be closed for one week for refurbishment.
At 9.00/9.10am pupils should enter via the infant gate in the infant playground and go to their usual playground area. We would ask that pupils avoid coming to school too early to help with our playground arrangements.
At 3.00/3/.10pm all pupils will leave school via the infant gate in the infant playground. To avoid congestion the classes will leave in the same order every day so that our younger pupils can be collected safely.
Staff will be in the playground at all times to ensure that all pupils enter and exit the school safely. We’ll let you know when the work has finished and we can start using the main pupil gate again.
Please phone the school for any further information and thanks for your continued support. Remember Monday is a holiday and the PS and ECC are closed on Thursday 6th May.
Have a great long weekend. Mrs Govans

All classes have enjoyed a brilliant first week back to Term 4.
We’ve all taken our learning outside in the glorious sunshine, and classes have been out all over the village having adventures and rescuing hedgehogs (ask Primary 1/2!!) Please click onto our class GLOW blogs to see some photos of the fun we’ve been having.
The staff have been so pleased with the confident and enthusiastic way in which all of our pupils have returned, and we are looking forward to a busy term.
Have a lovely weekend. Mrs Govans 🙂
In line with new Scottish Government guidelines, it is expected for all parents/carers to wear a face covering when they are dropping off and picking up their children at our school gates.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this national advice.
Mrs Govans
Catrine is a Winter Wonderland today and both the Primary School and the ECC are open as usual.
Please ensure your child comes wearing warm clothes and suitable footwear for a snowy day in our playgrounds.
Take care. Mrs Govans
