P7 Transition Meeting – Tuesday 11th May 2021 (1)

Two reminders on a sunny AND snowy Friday!

What a week – we’ve had lovely sunshine, snowy blizzards, flooded playgrounds and two days off!

  1. Please note that our main pupil gate and entrance will still be out of use for next week – the crazy weather has slowed down progress so all classes will continue to enter and exit school via the Infant Gate until further notice.  Thanks for your support with this – it’s been working very well.
  2. Remember the School Streets online survey for all Catrine PS parents/carers is open until midnight on Sunday 9th May.  Please take the time to have your say on whether the traffic restrictions temporarily in place around our school should be made permanent.

Have a lovely weekend.  Mrs Govans

School Streets Survey – all views welcome!

As we enter the third week of the trial period of the School Streets initiative on the road around Catrine PS, Ayrshire Road Alliance are asking for feedback from residents, parents/carers, school staff, visitors to the school and the wider community.

Paper copies of the survey are being sent to all residents within the zone and we encourage all parents/carers of Catrine PS pupils to register their views online by clicking on the link below.

https://online1.snapsurveys.com/SchoolStreetsSurvey

The survey results will help to decide how EAC Traffic, Transportation and Safety proceed with this trial  so we would encourage everyone to have their say.  The survey closes at midnight on Sunday 9th May.

Thank you.  Mrs Govans

Changes to school entrance/exit from Tuesday 4th May

We are delighted that some improvements are going to be taking place around our school and playground over the next month and we’ll have to make some changes to ensure our pupil safety during the course of the works.

From Tuesday 4th May the main pupil gate and stairs will be closed for one week for refurbishment.

At 9.00/9.10am pupils should enter via the infant gate in the infant playground and go to their usual playground area.  We would ask that pupils avoid coming to school too early to help with our playground arrangements.

At 3.00/3/.10pm all pupils will leave school via the infant gate in the infant playground. To avoid congestion the classes will leave in the same order every day so that our younger pupils can be collected safely.

3.00pm – Primary 1/2 then Primary 3 then Primary 5/6
3.10pm – Primary 2 then Primary 4/5 then Primary 6/7

Staff will be in the playground at all times to ensure that all pupils enter and exit the school safely.  We’ll let you know when the work has finished and we can start using the main pupil gate again.

Please phone the school for any further information and thanks for your continued support.  Remember Monday is a holiday and the PS and ECC are closed on Thursday 6th May.

Have a great long weekend.  Mrs Govans

A wonderful start to Term 4

All classes have enjoyed a brilliant first week back to Term 4.

We’ve all taken our learning outside in the glorious sunshine, and classes have been out all over the village having adventures and rescuing hedgehogs (ask Primary 1/2!!)  Please click onto our class GLOW blogs to see some photos of the fun we’ve been having.

The staff have been so pleased with the confident and enthusiastic way in which all of our pupils have returned, and we are looking forward to a busy term.

Have a lovely weekend.  Mrs Govans 🙂

Face coverings at drop-off and pick-up times

In line with new Scottish Government guidelines, it is expected for all parents/carers to wear a face covering when they are dropping off and picking up their children at our school gates.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this national advice.

School Streets – road safety consultation for Catrine PS

Please see below for information from Kerr Chalmers, Traffic and Road Safety Manager for Ayrshire Roads Alliance.

‘We received 94 comments from our initial consultation on proposals for temporary measures to improve physical distancing at or near school entrances at eight schools in East Ayrshire.

A School Street is a road which is closed to all vehicular traffic at school start and finish times. The restriction would not apply to permit holders or blue badge holders, and residents of the street would be contacted directly and issued with free permits as the schemes are developed. The trials will be monitored and if schemes prove to be successful then we would like then to consider introducing permanent schemes.

We are now asking for feedback on the four schools where the initial trials of the proposals are planned to be undertaken. The schools are:

  • Auchinleck Primary School and Early Childhood Centre
  • Catrine Primary School
  • Crosshouse Primary School and Early Childhood Centre
  • St Sophia’s Primary School

We have prepared Plans, FAQs and Benefits of School Streets information pack – we hope these will answer many of the general queries raised about School Streets projects.

We are keen to receive as much feedback on our proposals as possible. I would be grateful therefore if you could share these links as widely as possible and encourage people to complete the online survey.  I am issuing a similar email to the Parent Council Chairs at the four schools.’

Please click on the highlighted link above for further information and a chance to comment on their proposals.  Thank you.

School Value: Responsibility

This week we have been focusing on our School Value of Responsibility.  Please go to your child’s class blog to see what Responsibility means to them.  Each class is also creating a fantastic School Values display – we’ll make sure to share them with you when they’re complete.

Next week’s School Value is Ambition.

We’ve had a brilliant day in school today celebrating Hallowe’en.  Lots of creative costumes were on display, and each pupil decorated a mask and took part in our whole school Hallowe’en Parade (outside in the playground).  This afternoon was noisy and energetic as each class held their own party, with Hallowe’en games and activities.  A great way to start the weekend!

Have a brilliant Hallowe’en weekend.    Mrs Govans 🙂

School Value: Determination

School Values

In our classes we are continuing to focus on our School Values, and have started to create the loveliest displays highlighting how we show these Values in our daily school life.

This week we discussed our School Value of Determination and how it applies to us in Catrine PS. Please look at your child’s class blog to see their definitions of Determination.

Next week we are focusing on our School Value of Teamwork.

Remember – early finish today for all pupils

All pupils will have eaten their lunch when they leave school, and with the sun still shining they’ll be able to enjoy the early start to their weekend.

A wonderful second day!

We’ve enjoyed a lovely day with our Group B pupils at Catrine PS today. Again, our pupils returned with such  positive attitudes and were full of questions about the changes that we’ve made to ensure the health and safety of everyone in our school.  Thanks also to our parents/carers for their great consideration when they are dropping off/picking up our pupils – we had another smooth start and finish to our day.
Our Group B Primary 1 pupils were wee superstars – what a brilliant day they’ve had with Miss Burleigh and Michelle.

Tomorrow, Friday 14th, we welcome ALL of our pupils back to their classes, sticking with our staggered start at 9.00am and 9.10am.
For tomorrow only, our pupils are being released early to give staff a chance to review our new procedures and organise any necessary changes, and to move tables and chairs etc so that we’re all ready for Monday 17th, when our pupils are in all day, every day.

All pupils will have eaten their lunch when they leave school tomorrow, and hopefully the sun will still be shining and they’ll be able to enjoy the early start to their weekend.

Arrangements for Friday 14th August …

Thanks to the Catrine PS community for your consideration, cooperation and understanding this week – it has been much appreciated.  Mrs Govans

First day back at school success

What a brilliant first day back at school we had with our Group A children!  Thanks to all parents/carers and, especially, our pupils for starting back with such positivity and enthusiasm.  They embraced all of the new changes with no problems, and it was as if they’d never been away – we are so pleased with how today has gone. A special mention to our new Primary 1 pupils who started today – they all settled in quickly and had a great time.

Tomorrow, Thursday 13th, we are delighted to be welcoming back our Group B children, with P1/2, P3 and P5/6 in school from 9.00am to 3.00pm, and P2, P4/5 and P6/7 in school from 9.10am to 3.10pm, with Group B Primary 1 pupils starting at 9.30am.  Looking forward to seeing them all!  Mrs Govans
