Catrine ECC in the spotlight

Catrine ECC’s Depute Manager, Alana Speirs, delivered a wonderful presentation today to an audience of over 90 EAC colleagues, including Headteachers and Heads of ECC from across the authority, the Senior Education Managers and the Head of Education at the Council Chambers in London Road in Kilmarnock.

She was highlighting the educational journey of the ECC which led to them earning national recognition – Scotland’s first Digital Learning ECC accreditation.

Alana detailed the structured programme led by Sherrie Devlin, ELCP, and talked about the drive, professionalism and commitment of all ECC staff members in working towards this whole ECC accreditation.

Alana and Sherrie are now working alongside Education Scotland colleagues to review the Digital Literacy programme of learning to ensure that the Early Years curriculum is well-structured, challenging and innovative.              #TeamCatrine leading the way 🙂

(apologies for the poor photo quality – I was too busy beaming with pride to take better ones!)

STEM Homelink

In the next few weeks we will be starting to develop the children’s learning through exploring different types of jobs that are available in the world we live in.
Therefore for this homelink activity I thought it would be fun to get all our family members to think back to when they were young(er) and what they dreamt of being when they grew up.

2,762 Working Together Clipart Images, Stock Photos & Vectors - Clip Art Library

So the task is to create a short video discussing what job you wanted to have.

Please encourage the children to use an ipad, phone or recording device to select the app to video your discussion, allow them to watch and help attach the video and send the email.
Discuss what roles the job might have, if the job uses specific tools, the uniform they might wear, the products they produce, where in the world they might work, who they might help, why you wanted to have this job and any other fun facts.
Please feel free to use props, pictures or even dress up to show us the jobs you wanted when you were young.

Please email any videos to easherrie.devlin@glow.sch.uk

by Monday 6th of May.

Don’t worry it will only be the kids and staff that will see the videos 😁

Can you draw your spoons?

Numeracy Home link – Week 1

Home link challenge 1

Hello everyone, hope you are all well and ready for a wee challenge with your child.  Over the next 4 weeks, I will have small numeracy challenges planned that the children can try, either indoors or outdoors.  This is a great opportunity to spend quality time with your child.

Measuring and comparing.

Can you assist your child in using different sized pans to fill up your sink or basin?

– How many small pans/ large pans did you use?

– Is the basin or sink full?

– What other items could you use to fill up the sink? –  kettle, bottles, jugs

– Could you draw me a picture of the items you used?

I can use the language of capacity – full or empty

I can use non standard items for measuring – hands, feet, blocks, jugs and bottles

I can identify items by size and/or amount – big/small, light/heavy, full/empty from a choice of two.

Numeracy home link Week 3

Hello this is week three of your child’s challenge, I would be really grateful for your participation.

Shapes

.- How many circles can you find in the house?

– How many items can you find that are a circle or have a circle within?

-What other shapes can you find in the house, can you name them?

-What resources can you use to make your own shapes?

-Can you match the shapes in the house?

-Can you name and draw the shapes you have found?

I can match shapes through the use of games such as posting shapes in a shape box, or placing shapes on a shape game.

I can recognise and name a range of 2D shapes including, square, circle, triangle and rectangle.

I can match 2D shapes to their outline

Our new pets have settled in well :)

On Wednesday the children got to meet our newest arrivals, two beautiful Guinea pigs called Poppet and Sandy. Even although their excitement was through the roof, they sat well at the side of their cage to look at them. The children were all learning the rules on how to behave and be responsible around them. We spoke about how to care for them, what they eat and drink and how to keep them healthy and safe. The children know to use quiet voices around them, not to stick their fingers through the cage or to post toys into their cage.
Here’s to a long and happy relationship between the children and our new pets, and lots of new found responsibilities.

Poppet and Sandy, we love you already 🙂

Health Week 2022

Well, what a week we have had at Catrine ECC.  It has been fantastic being able to invite lots of professionals back into the centre again after so long and the children have enjoyed every moment of it.  Have a look at the Sway below to see what we have been experiencing.

We could not have done this without the generous help of the professionals who kindly donated their spare time this week.  Thanks to everyone (including all of our Zumba parents on Thursday).

Enjoy, and have a lovely weekend
