Monday 4th May – Daily Task

Good morning everyone 🙂

Hope you all have had a lovely weekend.

Here are a few fun activities to kick start your week.

2PM NUMERACY

The whole family can be involved in this activity 😉 This morning we designed numbers 0 – 10 then hopped, jumped, walked backwards, stomped etc to the different numbers, another good idea is to play musical numbers (bumps), when the music stops, run to a number and identify the number. Creating a hopscotch with the numbers is also a great idea.

Have fun 🙂

10AM NUMERACY POST

Good morning everyone, hope you all had a lovely time together over the Easter holidays.

This morning I have attached a document with lots of counting songs, I’m sure the children will know most of them, for the ones you are unsure of you can find them on YouTube for help with the words and tune. 😉

The children can use their fingers for counting with the songs or why not line up some teddies to join in on the fun.

Have a lovely day 🙂

10AM – HOLIDAY FUN

Stick man, oh Stick man, BEWARE OF THE WATER AYR!!!

Once you have collected your sticks, created your Stickman and on your way to put stickman in the Water Ayr. It would be a good opportunity to talk about safety around the water/river.

Please send us in your Stickman and what happened on Stickman’s adventure down the Water Ayr.

Who did he meet?

What did he see?

Where did the Water Ayr take him too?

Will he ever get back to the family tree?

What a fun way to start the holidays! Hope you are all having a lovely time together. 🙂

2PM NUMERACY

This activity can be used in a variety of ways.

It can be a number recognition task – “Can you put a spiral on the number 5.”

It can be used to create amounts. – “Can you put 2 in the number 2.”

This activity is also great for exploring calculations. You can use the examples in the photo’s and/or create your own together.

I added mini tongs/tweezer’s to develop fine motor skills.

Great way to recycle your egg boxes too!!

Have fun. 🙂

2PM NUMERACY POST

Easy peasy playdough. (Focusing on developing mathematical language.)

Ingredients – Plain flour,  salt, cream of tartar, oil, hot water & if you wish, food colouring or essesence.

1 – 1 Cup of plain flour

2 – 1/2 cup of salt

3 – 2 Teaspoons  Cream of tartar (Mix all three ingredients together.)

4- 1 Tablespoons of oil (olive or vegetable oil.)

5 – ADULT add 1 cup of boiling water (add food colouring or scent if you wish, we used red colouring and orange essence.) Then mix and knead.

6 – Once ready and cool enough to play with you can create 5 currant buns, use stick/stones for candles to count, add shapes from puzzles, create amounts, long/short snakes etc.

Encourage mathematical vocabulary by asking –

Can you tell me when the cup is full?

Does the dough feel heavy or light?

How many spoonful’s do you think it will take to fill the cup?

Do we need to add more?

10AM NUMERACY POST

  1. A number line is a good visual aid. Ask your child to help you order the numbers. “I need your help to make a number line.” “Do you want to make one on your own?”  “0, 1, what number is next?” …..
  2.  The Very Hungry Caterpillar Addition – Example :- “You have 3 pears and add 3 more, how many do you have together?” “Lets count them 3 add 3 equals…”  You can use the number line, fingers, Lego bricks, stones etc. To help them work out the calculation.
  3. Make your own – You can have fun and create your own caterpillar additions. “What do you think the caterpillar would eat if he was in our house?”
  4. Remember – Relax, this is fun, be in the moment, enjoy this interaction with your child, provide positive reassurance and be very proud of yourself for creating these lovely memories with your child.

You are doing a great job!

Next week :- You’ll need an egg box, dry pasta and a pen. 🙂

Transition

Today group 2 enjoyed their morning in Primary 1.  The ECC children particularly enjoyed visits from their siblings and buddies, as well as creating faces with the stones, designing their coat peg pictures, working together to complete jigsaws and GoNoodle.

Primary 1 children and the buddies were great models and did a fantastic job of encouraging, supporting and including the children from the ECC.

Transition

Today was the start of our transition visits to Primary 1.  The ECC children enjoyed exploring the classroom, participating in kids Zumba, designing their own coat peg pictures and drawing with their buddies on the Promethean board.

Primary 1 children and the buddies did an amazing job ensuring the ECC children had a lovely warm welcome and felt included.
