Health Week 2022

Well, what a week we have had at Catrine ECC.  It has been fantastic being able to invite lots of professionals back into the centre again after so long and the children have enjoyed every moment of it.  Have a look at the Sway below to see what we have been experiencing.

We could not have done this without the generous help of the professionals who kindly donated their spare time this week.  Thanks to everyone (including all of our Zumba parents on Thursday).

Enjoy, and have a lovely weekend

Health Week

This upcoming week we will be enjoying taking part in a health week within the Centre.   We have many fabulous experiences planned that aim to cover the areas within the health and wellbeing framework.  Lots of professionals will be visiting to share their area of expertise in sports and safety.  We are looking forward to practising skills such as football, dancing and so much more.  An area I will be focusing on will be how to keep ourselves safe with a little help from Pantosaurus.

Have a look at the sway below to meet or say “Hi again” to Pantosaurus, our prehistoric friend who has a fun way to explore how we can keep ourselves safe in our early years.  I hope you enjoy the attached videos and links and if you still feel that you need some information or support please contact the ECC or send us an email.   I, (Lesleyanne), am the Health and Wellbeing Champion here at Catrine. Relationships, Sexual Health and Partnerships (RSHP) fall under this category and therefore I will be more than happy to support in anyway that I can

ealesley-anne.adams@glow.sch.uk

I aim to introduce the children to Pantosaurus at the start of the week. We have been exploring lifecycles within the centre where we have been looking in particular at how a tadpole changes and transforms, with our very own tadpole tank.

Oh Lila!

This month, as the children have been exploring various aspects of safety, we will be using the ‘Oh Lila!’ learning resource pack.   The pack includes a storybook, CD, puppets, jigsaw and guidance notes.

The book illustrates the story of a hare called Lila who does something that she shouldn’t have.  Her concerned friend, Eric the squirrel, offers advice and wants to get her help.

The aim of this story is to encourage the children to consider who the safe people are in their lives that they can turn to when they have problems that they need help with.

The story poses 3 key questions;

  • What should I do when I hurt myself?
  • What should I do when I’m feeling frightened?
  • What should I do when I feel lonely?

We will also discuss secrets and in what situations should secrets not be kept.

The story aims to develop social skills, problem solving and resilience.

Why not share this learning at home? – discuss sharing problems and who the safe people are in your child’s life.  The children love to share what they already know in the centre whilst learning new information.

Meet our new SHANARRI superhero!

It’s that time again……..a new superhero!  Ready to guide us on our journey in learning all about safety.  So far this academic year we have had Nurture Ned and Healthy Superhero.  So get ready to meet Superhero Safe.

A huge well done to all the children for participating in the competition.  With children and staff voting we found our winner…  Congratulations Ayla!  We love your hero and all agree that superheroes do have big hearts ♥

Mental Health Week

Please have a look at the sway below to see what we have been learning in the Centre over the past fortnight about mental health.  I have linked some websites for families to enjoy together at home and attached some links for additional information.

Friendly February

We are always encouraging positive relationships and interactions within the centre.
Please have a look at our calendar for the month, where ideas are shared to promote healthy relationships.

Please share any examples that you may have of your child being kind and being a friend to others.  We can reinforce and acknowledge  these positive behaviours here in the centre.

Here, Shaun is demonstrating how to be a super kind friend, helping a peer to zip his jacket up at home time.

Wow Achievements

We have cleared our Wow Wall ready for 2022. It was full of fantastic wow moments that have been so kindly shared from home however sadly our wall is now looking a bit bare and we really want to fill it up again.  We are so proud of all the achievements that were made in 2021 and really need everyone’s help at home to start sharing more of these memorable wow moments with us in 2022.

Harry shared his memorable wow moment………..

Harry has impressed us all with his newly learned skill of……whistling!  Well done Harry, whistling is a tricky skill to master.

So please share your child’s achievements and let us share these precious moments also.  Let’s fill up this wow wall Catrine 🙂

10th – 21st January 2022

SHANARRI

There’s that word again…….SHANARRI!

Our wellbeing indicators;

Safe

Healthy

Achieving

Nurtured

Active

Respected

Responsible

Included

We try to make these indicators familiar to the children through a range of approaches and using various resources.  We have found a great resource that explains SHANARRI in a fun way to engage children’s interest.

At the moment we are exploring healthy and what it means to be healthy and ways in which we can do this.  We have had great fun this week investigating healthy and unhealthy foods and various forms of exercise.

New Year, Healthy Start

Alongside our Healthy Superhero we will be continuing to explore healthy and unhealthy foods and what better time of the year is there to start!

We have all over indulged no doubt and it’s a good time of the year to highlight the importance of eating healthy and daily exercise and how this impacts our bodies and minds.  I have attached a couple of recipes that are easy and to show how simple changes can have a huge impact on calorie consumption and nutrition.  If anyone makes one of these snacks at home, please send us a photograph, both recipes are child friendly or perhaps you have a healthy dish you would love to share with us.

Please share any photographs of our little master chefs or recipes to your child’s learning journal.

The link below will take you to the NHS Better Health, healthier families website, filled with lots of great ideas to benefit a healthy lifestyle.  Again please share anything you try or find beneficial.  We would love to hear your thoughts, have a lovely weekend
