Polwarth House Treat – Yellow House

At prizegiving, the Yellow House were announced as the overall winners for this year. Their points were earned throughout the year for consistently demonstrating the school values.
As a reward, the Yellow House pupils are invited to take part in a Colour Run Obstacle course this Friday 20th at 2pm.
Yellow House pupils should bring an old set of clothes to change into after lunch time as they will get wet and very dirty! If they have sunglasses it would also be useful.  Any Yellow House child may bring a water soaker with them if they have one.
We are also hoping to provide children with an ice cream.
If you do not want your child to have an ice cream or participate in the colour run, please contact the school office.

P1 Beekeepers

P1 Beekeepers

What an exciting day Primary 1 had seeing the bees brought to them by the Beekeepers  Mr. Shaw and Mr. McAnespie who delivered a talk that the children found fascinating.  The gentlemen were very impressed by the knowledge the children had learned about their study of living creatures and especially their bee knowledge.

Then …

In the afternoon we had to call the gentlemen back as we discovered a swarm of honey bees, estimated at over 30.000 hanging in one of our trees.  They carefully took the honey bees away and relocated them.

The beekeepers sent the staff and children a lovely email after their visit.

From Mr P McAnespie

Yesterday 11th June 2025 I, with a beekeeping colleague and fire fighter Leroy Shaw, had the privilege of attending the school to give a talk on beekeeping.  To say I was impressed with the manners and beekeeping knowledge of the children we spoke to is a vast understatement.  The children were a delight to converse with and whoever had taught the children about the subject of beekeeping, I trust, are very valued members of the staff and an excellent teachers. The children, though very excited to see the honeybees, were very well behaved and they and the teachers/class assistants involved have to be commended.
Thank you so much for the opportunity of speaking to your class at the school.

Moving On Up! P1 – P6

This term we have planned 2 ‘bump up’ sessions for children moving on to their next stage in school.
The dates are as follows:

On the 12th June,  we would like to invite 1 parent/ carer to come to school at 2pm to have the opportunity to see the classroom their child will be working in next session and have the opportunity to be introduced to the new class teacher. This is a general ‘bump up’ for children, parents/ carers; there will be no opportunity for individual discussions regarding children’s progress. As usual, class teachers will meeting throughout the month of June to pass on children’s plans and have in depth discussions about children’s progress.

Musical Instrument Opportunity

Dear Parent/Guardian,
I am writing to let you know about an opportunity that your son/daughter is now eligible for. Your child has recently had a visit from East Ayrshire Music Service staff who provided a showcase performance on instruments available in your child’s school through the Music Service. If you would like your child to be tested for a musical instrument, please complete the Expression of Interest MS form. The link for this can be found below.  We try our best to accommodate as many pupils as possible, however, demand for lessons is very high. Please note that by registering your interest, this does not guarantee your child a space.

Should your child be successful in the trial a further registration form will be issued to allow you to register for lessons and the loan of a musical instrument. For your information the Terms and Conditions of the Music Service can also be found here:

Primary 3

This is a busy week for us as we have our school trip today to Largs and Vikingar. On Wednesday the children have their bouncy castle treat for raising money through their Scottish Tuck Shop followed by a movie afternoon whereby they can bring in pjs, cosy covers, pillows etc and a small snack.

Due to this there will be no formal homework or reading issued this week but normal homework and reading will start back next week.

JRSO Parking Campaign

Over the last two weeks the JRSO group have been issuing parking tickets with the help of PC Rae who joined them to help make the parking around the school better and safer for all.  They designed the tickets to remind those who were parking in the wrong areas that first and foremost they were trying to make it the safest it could be.  The JRSOs would like to thank the parents for their co-operation in parking safely in the correct place. It makes it better for everyone in our community.
