What’s the offer?

Following on from previous years successful delivery, staff across the SWEIC are once again being offered the opportunity to join a growth mindset themed professional learning programme. Carrying 8 accreditation points at (Masters) level 11, it’s delivered by our charity partners, Winning Scotland, who have supported dozens of SWEIC schools with growth mindset professional learning since 2018.

You can learn more about the programme here: www.winningscotland.org/limitless-learning.

Limitless Learning is a short, modular blended learning programme, that supports the application of growth mindset practice to enhance pupil engagement, attainment, health and wellbeing, confidence and resilience.

This video from St Matthew’s Academy in Saltcoats best illustrates the impact that can be achieved from developing a growth mindset.

Who’s it for?

Limitless Learning is for anyone who wishes to enhance their teaching practice, improve their understanding of growth mindset and collegiately engage with other teaching professionals. An ideal programme for busy teachers wishing to develop their pedagogy, Limitless Learning provides a fast, flexible learning experience to kick-start a growth mindset journey in school. It’s appropriate for teachers learning about growth mindset for the first time, or as a refresher for practitioners who have completed growth mindset professional learning in the past.

Why is growth mindset important?

‘Mindset’ is based on robust research into learning and brain development. A growth mindset approach to maths learning is more likely to succeed because a growth mindset enables us to:

  • treat our brain like a muscle – something that can always be honed and enhanced.
  • understand that making mistakes is normal and actually enriches learning.
  • realise that persistence and purposeful effort are key aspects of the learning journey.
  • recognise the importance of the process (when learning happens) as well as the outcome.

Pupil impact

  • Viewing mistakes as a learning opportunity: 84% of teachers report an improvement.
  • Understanding the value of effort: 83% of teachers report an improvement.
  • Showing persistence in learning: 80% of teachers report an improvement.
