Lead Practitioners – Maths (Secondary) x 4 (x1 Dumfries and Galloway, x1 East Ayrshire, x 1 North Ayrshire, x1 South Ayrshire)

Lead Practitioners – Technologies (Secondary) x 8 (x2 Dumfries and Galloway, x2 East Ayrshire, X2 North Ayrshire, x2 South Ayrshire)

Over the past few years, the SWEIC has created a number of curricular networks which are now well established and are progressing well. For session 2022-23, the intention now is to create a further 2 new secondary curricular networks – one for secondary Maths teachers and a second for the curricular area of Technologies – however recognising the breadth of this particular curricular area a number of subgroups will be set up within the Technologies network.

To support this development, we are seeking to identify and recruit lead practitioners in these two areas from each local authority (1x Maths and 2 x Technologies) to support us in their creation and to act as a local authority contact for sharing network information and opportunities to colleagues.

Rationale and purpose of the curricular networks is to:

  • Provide a space and opportunity for teachers, in the respective curricular areas, from across South West to work together to improve outcomes in their classroom.
  • Support the development of a culture of practitioner critical enquiry through a focus on improvement through self-evaluation leading to improved outcomes for learners.
  • Focus on subject pedagogy to support classroom improvement.
  • Access a virtual space where classroom practitioners can work, think, learn, talk, problem solve and innovate together.
  • Provide a regional forum for input from agencies such as Education Scotland, SQA, and specific subject specialist partners to support and improve curricular delivery.
  • Provide subject specific CLPL.
  • Share practice to improve learning and achievement.

Membership of each network would be open to all secondary subject teachers in the relevant curricular area from schools across the SWEIC. Each group will have a Team in Glow which all members can access. It is also hoped to facilitate some face to face/hybrid opportunities.

A cover/development budget of £1500 will be available to each local authority lead practitioner to undertake the planned development/coordination work associated with this role. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before submitting an expression of interest.

If you are an experienced subject teacher and are interested in undertaking this role in your local authority, please send detailed expressions of interest to Sheelagh.Rusby@dumgal.gov.uk (SWEIC Quality Improvement Manager) by 11th November 2022.
