Following the success of previous SWEIC Outdoor Learning CLPL and the recent series of SWEIC Outdoor Learning Blethers the SWEIC Outdoor Learning Group have facilitated a further CLPL session which will take place on Thursday 17th March from 15:30-17:00. The session is open to anyone with an interest in Outdoor Learning and will be particularly useful to school leaders and those leading outdoor learning developments within their setting or school.

The SWEIC Outdoor Learning Group are pleased to welcome back David Cameron who will continue to share his thoughts from broad expertise of outdoor learning in the Scottish Education system. We also welcome Amy Johnson and South Ayrshire’s Dolphin House Outdoor Learning Team who will share with us their thoughts on equity and equality in outdoor learning.

Keynote Speakers

Education Consultant David Cameron has extensive experience in school management at all levels. He was Director of Children’s Services for Stirling Council, Head of Education in East Lothian, and an Area Manager for Fife schools. He was President of the Association of Directors of Education Scotland and been involved with a range of national groups, notably on Curriculum for Excellence, Outdoor Education and Looked After Children. David chaired the Scottish Governments Outdoor Connections group which embedded outdoor learning in Scotland’s education policy. He is a longstanding trustee of Learning through Landscapes and a smallholding farmer.

Amy Johnson is a member of Education Scotland’s Improving Gender Balance & Equalities Team. During this input, which is relevant to all settings, Amy will explore the impact of gender inequality, gender stereotypes and unconscious bias on children and young people’s experience of and access to outdoor learning. Amy will highlight strategies and practical approaches that help to address this including examples of good practice. In addition to gaining information, the session will include opportunities for interaction and the chance to reflect on equality within your own practice/setting.
