Kicking Off Catholic Education Week at St Joseph’s RC

This week, we proudly launched Catholic Education Week at St Joseph’s RC with an inspiring whole-school assembly centred on this year’s theme, “Pilgrims of Hope”. This theme holds particular significance as we look forward to the Jubilee Year 2025, a special time in the Catholic Church when the Holy Door of St Peter’s Basilica in Rome, along with other designated doors in cathedrals worldwide, will be opened.

We explained to our pupils the importance of these Holy Doors, which pilgrims from across the globe pass through as a profound expression of their faith. The children were captivated by the meaning behind this tradition and how it connects us as a global Catholic community.

Exploring Pope Francis’s Message

During the assembly, we also reflected on Pope Francis’s powerful letter about the Jubilee Year. The children eagerly engaged in activities to understand and respond to some key themes:

  • Why is the Jubilee Year important?
  • The role of prayer in our lives.
  • How Catholics work together to help others, including collaborating with people of other faiths.
  • The value of science and medicine in supporting human dignity and well-being.
  • The importance of helping those in need and caring for our world.

Their thoughtful answers and reflections showed a deep understanding of these messages, highlighting how Catholic Education Week inspires us all to live out our faith with hope and purpose.

Creating Our Holy Doors

To bring the theme of the Holy Door to life each pupil created their own Holy Door. These doors are a visual reminder that St Joseph’s is a place where everyone is welcome—a message we are proud to share with our community.

Looking Ahead

We will have some more activities to celebrate Catholic Education Week. Stay tuned for updates and more photos as we continue to explore our faith, engage in service to others, and deepen our sense of community.

Let us continue walking together as Pilgrims of Hope, spreading faith, kindness, and hope in everything we do. 🌟
