Disclosure Scotland Communications: Quarter one update – 29 July 2026

Five-year PVG scheme updateFrom 1 April 2026, the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme moved to a five-year membership model. A reminder that you do not need to take any action for the five-year membership right now. PVG scheme members who joined prior to 1 April 2026, and who subsequently apply for PVG (for example, when they change employer) are automatically moved to the five-year PVG scheme when their application is completed.

Disclosure Scotland will contact members who do not otherwise apply to the PVG scheme before they are moved to a five-year membership. This work will be carried out in batches, based on the date the individual first joined the PVG scheme.As part of this approach, members who are currently engaged in a regulated role will be prioritised for transition to the five-year membership. We will not begin this aspect of the transition for at least the next few months. We will provide you with further information on the timings for this work in our next quarterly update in October. In the meantime, organisations can prepare for the transition by ensuring that they only maintain interest in scheme members that are currently in a regulated role, or where they anticipate the individual returning to their role in the future.
