Terrific Term 2 for P2/3

Hi everyone! It has been a terrific term 2 for P2/3!

This term, we introduced spelling practice. We have been using lots of play based methods to help us with our learning. Have a look at some of our success!

In numeracy, the circles and rectangles groups have recently been learning all about the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. The squares and triangles have been learning about patterns and have been creating different repeating patterns using the cubes. The squares and triangles have also been learning about ordering and place value. We then moved onto learn about the role this plays when adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers. Have a look at our success!

Our IDL context this term has been Christianity and other world religions. As a class, we voted to see which other world religion we wanted to study. The class chose Buddhism and enjoyed learning all about what Buddhists believe and about their temple of worship. In class, we learned about the Wat temple of worship and looked at the structures of the building and how to identify a Wat Buddhist temple. The class were given the task to build or create a Wat and they got to choose their materials. Have a look at some of our success!

In Skills Academy, we focused on community. With the P1 classes focusing on how to help the people in our community, we focused on how to help the wildlife in our community. To do this, we investigated the secret garden in the school playground to see what features it had for wildlife. We then investigated what wildlife lived in the secret garden by going on a mini-beast hunt. After we identified what wildlife lives in our school community, the class learned about the micro-habitats of these mini-beasts and what they need to survive. To help the mini-beasts in our community to survive, we worked in teams to build some lovely bug hotels! This involved lots of team work to collect different pieces of nature such as sticks, twigs, stones, leaves and bark and to build these in a way that created lots of small dark spaces, in order to make sure our bug hotels were suitable. Once built, each learner designed a stone using acrylic paint pens, featuring their favourite mini-beast. We placed the stones around the bug hotels to show the hard work each learner put into the project and to encourage learners to take ownership and pride in what they have  created in our community! Have a look at the different stages of our project and the success that we shared!

During wet playtimes this term, the class have all shown a keen interest and have been enjoying using the class jigsaw puzzles! P2/3 wanted to share some of their success with these too!

P2/3 have been working extremely hard this term and feel very proud of themselves! Well done Superstars!

Term 2 in Primary 4

Primary 4 have been very busy so far this term.

We practised for our skipathon and raised lots of money. Some of us were really good at skipping and some of us had to try really hard. We enjoy skipping at break and lunch time now!

For Children in Need we took part in the Joe Wicks workout. We were allowed 3 ‘Yes’ questions for the teacher so we got to watch a movie with a snack. We also were allowed to come dressed as we pleased.

We have been learning to use Coding. We put a code into the mice and Botleys to help them reach a target.

We made felt pouches in Skills Academy. We found it really fun and interesting but parts of it were tricky.

P4/5 Has Rhythm!!

This week in class, Primary 4/5 have been learning about rhythm and pulse. We listened to a piece of music by KODA before identifying the pulse – the constant beat throughout the music. We then explored using a form of pictorial notation to perform the rhythm as a class. The squares represented one beat and the circles represented two. Mr McCrone was very impressed at how well we played together!

Aren’t we superstars?! Shoutout to our wonderful conductor too!

P7

Welcome to P7’s blog page

Safer Internet Day

08/02/22 was Safer Internet Day. We discussed how to be safe on the internet and advice that we could give others to encourage them to stay safe too.

We watched a video on the UK Safer Internet Centre website and then created a poster displaying the importance of internet safety.

Aviation Museum

We visited the Aviation Museum to learn more about our World War 2 topic.

We got to see what it would be like to be in an Anderson Shelter during the Blitz. It was very cramped!

We also got to see what a living room, kitchen and bedroom would have been like during WW2.

We got to see a real Spitfire from the war that was recovered from Loch Doon and hear all about it!

We had a great time, learned lots of interesting information and had fun!

Skills Academy

This term in Skills Academy we are focusing on Food and Health

In week 1 we researched and planned a balanced menu for a Diwali celebration. It was interesting to learn about different foods and the research made us very hungry.

Then we tried some new healthy foods and used sensory descriptors to describe these. Everyone did a fantastic job at showing confidence and trying new things!

The persimmons were a hit but the cheese was hit and miss!

In weeks 4 and 5 we baked cookies.

We had great fun researching recipes, following recipes and tasting our creations! There are some budding chefs in P7 who are eager to share the skills they have been developing!

Remembrance Day

We collaboratively created this memorial display including the poem ‘Please Wear a Poppy’ by Don Crawford.

World War 2

As part of our World War 2 topic P7 created propaganda posters. The class produced some great art work!

Outdoor Learning

In maths we have been learning about fractions, decimals and percentages.

We took our learning outdoors to find examples of this in real life.

We organised leaves into different categories and then calculated the fraction/percentage that we found.
