Operation Safety

On Thursday 6th October P7 went to visit DGOne in order to participate in Operation Safety.

We visited lots of activities which were connected with the emergency services. – Ria

At the ‘Fire’ station we had to throw a pretend rocket and whichever card it landed on we had to decide whether we could burn it on a bonfire or not.

In one of the activities we went into a room and saw a body lying on the floor. We had to decide how to respond in this situation. We learnt how to place someone in the recovery position. – Leah

At the water safety station we got to see how the fire service dress when they are going to save someone. We learnt what we should do when someone is drowning in the water. – Ava

When visiting Scottish Power we had to figure out how to stay safe around electricity.- Corrie

At the police activity we talked about online safety and made a video about how to stay safe online.- Aila

Next we visited the Youth Work station where we were talking about who our role models were and why. – Grace

I thought that Operation Safety was fun and we learned a lot. – Kacey.

We developed our teamwork and communication skills while we were at Operation Safety.- Skye

 

Technology Skills Academy

This term Primary 7 have been working on Technologies during skills academy.  We focussed on engineering and design briefs.

During the first week we created a Powerpoint based on all the different disciplines. We worked in groups to do this. -Jaiden.

In week 2 we needed to create a carriage to travel down a zip line. The teacher told us what we could use.  I found this challenge fun and our carriage didn’t work but if we had another chance we would know how to fix it. – CJ

During week 3 we had to make a logo for our Ferris wheel by finding a picture and adding the text we wanted on it. We developed our graphic design skills. – Moaz

We were put into groups to make a ferris wheel out of cardboard and other materials. The Ferris wheel had to stand, spin and carry passengers. I enjoyed this STEM challenge and it was fun watching other groups. During this I developed my creativity, communication and problem solving skills.- Reuben

P3’s Class Charter

A class charter tells you your rights – Harris.
It reminds you of your responsibilities – Oliver.

We had a discussion about having rights and being nice – Jordan.
We looked at the rights that we have and we picked out some rights that would make a better class – Murray.

We decided that in our class we want to the right to…

Play In A Day!

On Monday 3rd October P7 visited Dumfries High School to take part in Play In  A Day!

The topic we were learning about was social media and what could go wrong on social media. – Iona

At Play In A Day we developed our drama skills by scripting and acting out a play about the dangers of social media.- Reuben

Some of the pupils at DHS took little groups to help us make up a dance for the rap which we learned. _ Lacey

We used our acting skills to create a play in little groups.- Kacey.

We each got to go in a little group and act out situations which could happen on an online platform. – Aila

We all got to act the play out in front of some of our parents. We all really enjoyed it!- Moaz

At Play In A Day I thought it was really fun when we were acting it out but it was also a little nerve-wracking. _ Ella

We participated in lots of fun games such as Eastenders and Zip Zap.- Jaiden

Before lunch we went outside to play some sports with the Sports Ambassadors. We played rounders and ultimate frizbee. – Wilson

At the end of the day we were all pleased with ourselves for performing in front of our parents. – Skye

Maths Roadshow

As part of Maths Week Scotland we had a visit from the Maths Roadshow. We visited different stations around the room solving different kinds of maths puzzles. – Lucy

We had to use our problem solving skills to put the puzzles together and work them out with a partner. – Sonny

I thought it was a great opportunity to be able to take part in this and most people really enjoyed it. _ Lyla

It was a fantastic experience. Some of the puzzles were really challenging and some of them were easier to solve. – Corey

It was really fun and we got to develop lots of different problem solving strategies.- Corrie

A visit from the Community Safety Officer

Last week, we had a visit from Andrew Hay, one of our local Community Safety Officers.  He talked to us about playing our part to keep the community tidy and safe.   This involves recycling our rubbish, picking up our dog’s poo, not dropping litter and being respectful to each other within the community.

We also had a visit from Laura, the Gull Officer.  She told us about the 5 different breeds of gulls and that we should never feed them.
