Robert Burns
Primary 7 had great fun learning about the life of Robert Burns.
They researched key events in his life and then used this to write a rap about his life. They then created a backing track using Chrome Music Lab. They recorded and evaluated their performance before rerecording their rap. They then designed a CD cover for their rap.
Great work P7!

Lego, Lego, Lego!
We have ben very lucky to receive a grant rom DRAX which we have used to purchase lots of Lego Spike sets. The Young Digital Leaders can’t wait to start using this with classes after the holidays!
My World of Work Workshops
At the end of November P7 took part in different World of Work workshops.
We learnt about cracking different codes in the Cryptography workshop. We had great fun coding and decoding different messages.
We then took part in a games design workshop and we created our own maze game. We were able to control our character to solve the maze and then we were able to play each others games. It was super cool!

Health and Wellbeing Day at DHS
On Tuesday 14th November P7 attended Dumfries High School to take part in a cluster Health and Wellbeing Day.
The children were split into different groups and got a chance to meet children from different schools across the Dumfries High School cluster primary schools.
Throughout the day P7 took part in different activities including working with the school captains, the sports leaders, the school Police Officer, PC McKerlie and different teachers from Dumfries High School.
Everyone had a great day and this gave them all another chance to experience life at secondary school.
Skills Academy
In Skills Academy this term we have been looking at design and technology. We have worked as part of a team on different projects. On our final week we brought all of our skills together in order to create a mode of transport for a Halloween character.
We had to work as part of a team to develop a plan for our ‘Witchmobile’ and we could be very creative! We were given a list of resources we could use to build our vehicle but there was certain criteria which it had to meet. It had to be air powered, move independently and have a graphic design logo. Once we had planned our build we then created a graphic design logo on the computer before building our vehicle.
After we were finished we tested our vehicles outside to see how successful they were.
We had great fun and developed lots of different skills.
Operation Safety
On Thursday 5th October Primary 7 went to DGOne for Operation Safety. We took a bus to Operation Safety. When we were there we got split into groups so we could do our activities.
When we were working with Scottish Power they taught us how many volts travel through power lines. We carried out an experiment to see if electricity could travel through our bodies. They taught us how to be safe around electricity.
The fire brigade helped us with fire safety and water safety. We learned how to keep ourselves safe around fireworks. We played a game to see what was safe to put on a bonfire. At water safety they showed us how to help someone who was drowning while keeping ourselves safe.
The paramedics taught us the recovery position and how to check ABC. A stands for airways B stands for breathing and C stands for circulation or pulse. They also showed us how to find our pulse.
Youth work taught us about the dangers of vaping and smoking. We had to draw a hand and share things that were important to us.
The police talked to us about social media and the age requirements for different apps. We made a TikTok advising people about the dangers of social media.
We thought Operation Safety was fun and interesting.
