P7 had great fun outside with the scooters this week!
On Tuesday 1st October P7 attended Operation Safety at DGOne. During the day they took part in a variety of different workshops which were all based around the them of keeping safe.
The workshops were presented by the Fire Service, Scottish Ambulance, Youth Work, Scottish Power and Police Scotland.
It was a very informative day with lots of skills developed.
Primary 7 took part in a webinar with DRAX in order to learn all about hydro power.
After the webinar P7 used their focus, collaborating, adapting and critical thinking skills in order to create a turbine which would turn when placed in water. We used Strawbees to construct our turbines. We were all very successful.
On Thursday 3rd October we celebrated International Older Persons Day at Heathhall Primary. We invited elderly residents from Heathhall Community to come into the school and enjoy an afternoon of activities.
P7B decided that they would bake for the event. We made delicious shortbread and provided tea and coffee for the afternoon.
On Friday 20th September P7 attended Dumfries High School to take part in Play in a Day.
They began the day by taking part in a variety of different drama games. The y then went on to learn a rap all about social media.
After that they were split into groups to create a role play based on the dangers of different social media apps.
A lunch time the Sports Leaders led a game of dodgeball for the children.
In the afternoon the children had a final rehearsal before welcoming the parents to watch their production.
Everyone had a fantastic day while developing different skills such as collaborating, communicating, adapting and creativity!
We have been learning about food chains. We went on a hunt for different animals which are part of a food chain. We worked with a partner to identify producers and consumers. We also played food chain tig where we had to find animals that would eat us. We created a food web using string to show how all the food chains are connected. We used our adapting, curiosity and focussing skills. It was exciting and challenging.
We made different models using lego spike. We had to choose a build and then use the iPads to create coding sequences in order for our model to move. We used leadership, communication and collaborating skills. It was really exciting.
Our parents were invited in for an open afternoon. Our afternoon was very sporty and we took part in different sports. We used meta skills such as adapting, leading and focussing. It was a fun afternoon.
We went outside to create pictures of different creatures. We had to use materials which we found outside. We created creatures such as snakes, butterflies and snails! We used our creativity, critical thinking and adapting skills. We thought it was really fun.
