P3,4,5 were investigating different ways to read the time. We looked at modern ideas like digital watches and then learned that you can actually tell the time using the sun’s position in the sky. People used sundials to tell the time of the day in the past. We all made sundials using a variety of materials. Here’s one example made from Kalen’s pencil, a garden cane and a hula hoop, it certainly worked well. We mapped the position of shadow cast on the ground by the cane throughout the day and noticed that the shadow motived with the hours.

“It was something new, I didn’t know about sundials before.” Amos

“It was very fun and I learned something new.” Lucy

“I can’t believe it actually worked!” Preston

“Sundials are fun and they work, we move around the sun!” Joe
