The Kells team of Sophie, Freya, Danny and Henry were successful at the Castle Douglas Rotary Club Primary Quiz on 16th February. Kells were tied with Gelston going into the last round. However, Kells managed to score two more points in the Pot Luck round which meant that Kells were the winners for the first time. The victorious team now go forward to the Dumfries & Galloway Final in Dumfries later in the school year. Annual Burns Lunch at Kells
Kells Primary held their annual Burns Lunch on Friday 3rd February. The event was hosted by P7 pupils. All pupils and staff were treated to speeches and entertainment provided by P5, P6 and P7 pupils. Henry delivered the welcome address and introduced the speakers. The Selkirk Grace was recited by Miss Deshayes. Freya carried in the haggis to the skirl o’ the pipes. This was followed by the Sophie and Henry reciting the Address To A Haggis. Some of the P6 girls helped serve haggis, neeps and tatties to the pupils and staff. After the lunch, Henry and Sophie delivered the Immortal Memory. The Toast to the Lassies was presented by Henry and Mr Thompson. Sophie made the reply on behalf of the lassies. After the traditional speeches, the pupils who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Scots verse competition received their certificates. The winners then recited their poems. Primary 5-7 also performed ‘Charlie is my Darling’. A very enjoyable lunch was concluded with everyone singing ‘Auld Lang Syne’.
Macmillan Coffee Morning Cheque Presentation
On Friday 9th December, Yvonne Gall (Macmillan Volunteer), visited Kells to deliver a presentation to the P1-7 pupils at assembly on the important work that the charity does and what the money will go towards. After Yvonne’s presentation the Primary 7 pupils presented the cheque for £1179.93.

Book Week Scotland 2016
Mrs Banner, Glenkens Cluster School Librarian, presented the Book Bug Bags for the P1 children at Kells last Friday to celebrate Book Week Scotland. Earlier in the week the P7 pupils read the three stories to the P1 pupils and then they voted for their favourite. Mrs Banner will now send all the votes from the Cluster to Book Week Scotland so that a national winner can be announced in January.
The P2 and P3 pupils also received Read Write Count Bags this year.
I am sure they will all enjoy reading the books and playing the number games with members of their family.
Kells Pupils’ Tribute to the Bard

The Selkirk Grace was recited by Lewis. Lewis also carried in the haggis to the skirl o’ the pipes. This was followed by the Charlotte, Stewart, Ben and Arran reciting the Address To A Haggis. P5 and P6 pupils helped serve haggis, neeps and tatties to the pupils, staff and guests. After the lunch, Arran delivered the Immortal Memory. The Toast to the Lassies was presented by Ben. Charlotte made the reply on behalf of the lassies. After the traditional speeches, the pupils who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Scots verse competition received their certificates. The winners then recited their poems. Charlotte and Sophie sang ‘Ye Banks and Braes’. Primary 5-7 the ‘Skye Boat Song’ and the ‘Wedding O’ . A very enjoyable lunch was concluded with everyone singing ‘Auld Lang Syne’.

Macmillan Coffee Morning
Pupils in P7 at Kells Primary raised £774 (so far) by hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning at the Cross Keys Hotel in New Galloway on Wednesday 7th October. Pupils planned and advertised the coffee morning and served parents and friends on the day. They also made collection tins for local businesses to collect donations for the charity. The pupils would like to thank everyone from the local community who supported the event. Well done P7!
Annual Rotary Club Quiz
Amy, Evie, Florrie and Finlay represented Kells in the Castle Douglas Rotary Club Quiz on the 5th February at Castle Douglas Primary School. The pupils performed very well throughout and were joint leaders going into the last round with Castle Douglas Primary. The team finished in third place after a tricky final round on sport.

3rd Kells 70

Rotary Club Quiz 2014
P7 pupils represented Kells at the annual Rotary Club Quiz which was held at Castle Douglas Primary School on Wednesday 12th February. The team finished in fourth place after eight rounds of questions. Congratulations to the winners Springholm who now go forward to the regional final.
