The Kells team of Sophie, Freya, Danny and Henry were successful at the Castle Douglas Rotary Club Primary Quiz on 16th February. Kells were tied with Gelston going into the last round. However, Kells managed to score two more points in the Pot Luck round which meant that Kells were the winners for the first time. The victorious team now go forward to the Dumfries & Galloway Final in Dumfries later in the school year. Glenkens P6 K’Nex Challenge
On the 19th April the P6 K’Nex Cluster Challenge was held at Dalry School. The task this year was to design and make a go-kart for the staff at the Glasgow Science Festival to use. Their go-kart had to have the following –
- At least 4 wheels
- Be between 10-20cm tall and 10-20cm wide
- A steering mechanism you can turn by hand to allow the vehicle to turn left and right
- Include at least one seat for the driver
Mr Harvie and Mrs Stewart from Dalry School were the guest judges.
The top designers were –
Adele and Jessica will now go forward to represent the Glenkens Cluster at the regional finals in Dumfries in May.

Operation Safety 2015
Primary 6 pupils from the Glenkens Cluster attended Operation Safety at Stair Park in Stranraer on the 2nd June. Workshops were delivered to the pupils by the Police, Ambulance Service, NHS, Fire Service, Coastguard and also different departments within the council who tackle anti-social behaviour. The pupils really enjoyed the experience plus learned a lot of important life skills. Here are some photographs of some of the workshops they attended.
P6 K’Nex Cluster Challenge
On the 2nd April the P6 K’Nex Cluster Challenge was held at Dalry School. The task this year was to design and make a vehicle and / or trailer which will allow the athletes to transport their equipment to Glasgow safely and securely. The vehicle had to transport a bottle of water to represent the sports equipment. The pupils were also given a list of other rules to follow. Mr Harvie and Mrs Stewart from Dalry School were the guest judges.

Kells Burns Supper
Just a reminder that tickets are now on sale for the annual Burns Supper. This will take place on Friday 7th February, 6.15 for a 6.30 start. As always, the P7 pupils will be hosting the night and delivering the main speeches. P6 pupils will help with the serving of the meal and provide some entertainment too. Letters have been sent home via pupil post. Please contact the school office if you require any more details.
