The pupils enjoyed their Christmas Party on the last day of term. There was the usual mix of food, traditional games as well as some dancing. We were very lucky that Santa Claus could find the time from his busy schedule to visit Kells to present all the pupils with a selection box.
Primary 1-4 performed ‘Hey Ewe!’ for parents and friends on the afternoon and evening of the 16th December. The children told the story of the Nativity through the eyes of a very curious sheep. The PTA served tea, coffee, mince pies and shortbread after the performances. £102 was raised on the day from the Christmas Hamper Raffle. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the pupils.
M&M Productions will be performing the pantomime ‘Dick Whittington’ in the school hall on the afternoon of Monday 9th December. Dalry Primary pupils wills be joining us and the children from Dalry Nursery have also been invited.
Our Christmas Lunch will be on Wednesday 11th December at the cost of £1.75. Please contact the school office or Mrs McSkimming if you would like to order a Christmas Lunch for your child.
The Christmas Nativity will be on Monday 16th December. As usual there will be an afternoon and evening performance. This year it is the turn of P1-4 and they will be performing ‘Hey Ewe!’ Refreshments will be available after both performances. Raffle tickets will be on sale for the chance to win the Christmas Hamper.
The PTA are currently organising a Coffee & Cake afternoon in the school hall. This will take place on Thursday 19th December. There will also be games for the children to play as well as the ever popular cake stall. The raffle will be drawn to find out who has won the Christmas Hamper. Please come along and support the school.
On Friday 20th December there will be a Christmas Service at Dalry Church for Carspairn, Dalry and Kells pupils. Pupils will then walk back to Dalry School for hot chocolate and homemade shortbread after the service.
The date and time of the Christmas Party has still to be confirmed. We are still waiting for confirmation from Santa!
All pupils at Kells have recently been involved in Finance Education workshops. Bev Wilkinson, Finance Education Training Officer, delivered the ‘Money Box’ workshops to P1-4 and ‘Money Talks’ workshops to P4-7. Here are some photographs of the P4-7 pupils finding out about the different types of bank and store cards available in society. P4-7 pupils completed a series of tasks in their ‘Money Talks’ workbook and then were tested on what they had learned by participating in a quiz. The winner was Bronnen, second was Murray and third was Jasmin.
Our Harvest Assembly was held on Friday 11th October in the school hall. The pupils brought in lots of food for our Harvest Table as you can see from the photographs below. Our School Chaplain, Dr Bartholomew, told the pupils the Bible story about the loaves and fishes. P1-4 recited a poem about Harvest time and the whole school sang ‘Autumn Days’ and ‘I Have Seen the Golden Sunshine.’ After break time pupils from P5-7 delivered 26 harvest parcels to the elderly in New Galloway.
Mrs McKee set the pupils fromP1-4 a challenge last week of naming two of the family’s orphaned lambs. The one condition was that the names had to be characters from a children’s book. The class made a long list of suitable male and female names. Mr & Mrs McKee decided on the names ‘Balloo’ and ‘Daisy.’ Here are a few photographs of the lambs with some of the children from the class.
P1-4 have been growing daffodils to then sell to raise money for the Marie Curie Mini Pots of Care campaign. As you can see from the photo below the daffodils have turned out well this year. We will let you know how much the class raise in a future post.
A part of their Disaster Zone topic the pupils of P1-4 have been making volcanoes which can erupt. As you can tell by some of their faces they really enjoyed the activity. I think two of the pupils probably used too much food colouring in the experiment!
