The PTA held their annual Musical Café to raise money for school funds. Both classes performed musical items to entertain their parents, relatives and friends of the school. £430 has been raised this month. Well done to all involved!
Here are some picture highlights of the afternoon.
On Friday 10th October we held our Harvest Assembly. The pupils brought in items for the Harvest table and they also performed some musical items for the parents and grandparents. After the assembly the P5-7 pupils delivered 25 Harvest parcels to the elderly in New Galloway.
There will be an Open Evening for parents and carers at the school on Wednesday 1st October, from 6-7pm. There will be more details sent home via pupil post next week.
The pupils from both classes worked with Mrs Bielinski our art specialist to create this banner and bunting for the Queen’s Baton Relay that was taking place in Castle Douglas on Thursday 19th June.
All the pupils from Kells competed in this year’s Galloway Music Festival. The P1-4 class performed well in the non-competitive Action Song category.
P5-7 won the small schools choir competition. The Lindsay Singers cup is now proudly displayed in our trophy cabinet.
In the P7 Scots Verse competition, Bronnen came first and Jasmin came third.
Charlotte was first in the Penny Whistle class.
We had quite a few successes in the Vocal Solos. Florrie was first in the beginners class with Amy second. Georgiana was first in grade one with Charlotte second. Jasmin was second in Grade two. And finally Bronnen was first equal in grade three.
Bronnen also won the Poem Monologue and the Scots Song Solo and came second in the Prose Reading.
Well done to all the pupils!
P1-4 have been very working hard with Mrs Bielinski, our art specialist, to produce paintings inspired by Van Gogh’s Starry Night.
This takes place from the 10th to the 15th March. The school have entered two choir competitions, class action song, Scots verse and vocal solos. We have a pupil who has entered the penny whistle competition and also another two pupils who are participating in the recorder competition. Good luck to all the pupils representing Kells!
The Pupil Council have decided to organise a Book Sale for World Book Day on Thursday 6th March. Pupils will be asked to donate books that they are finished with that are still in good condition that could be sold on the day. Books will be very reasonably priced.
We are also hoping to sell books for mums and dads too. Any donations of books will be gratefully received by the Pupil Council.
The Pupil Council have decided that all profits will either go towards purchasing new books for the school library or new playground equipment for break times.
Pupils will also be given the opportunity to dress up as their favourite character from a book on World Book Day.

On the afternoon of Tuesday 11th February we held our annual Scots Verse competition. We were delighted that Mike Duguid was once again able to come and listen to the pupils recite their poems plus decide who comes first, second and third. The pupils who were given a place will now represent Kells at the Galloway Music Festival in March.
