A big thank you to the Perkins family for donating some new and used toys to the P1-3 class at Kells. The Snow Queen Palace took some head scratching to put together but is now very popular.

Blood Bike Visit
Recently Judith Sauberlich and Dave Hook from Dumfries & Galloway Blood Bikes visited Kells. The pupils were told all about the voluntary service where blood and medical supplies are transported around the region from one hospital to another. They also got the opportunity to ask questions, and more importantly, sit on the motorbike. The pupils also came up with some fundraising ideas for later in the school year to raise money to support the work of this valuable service.
Annual Scots Verse Competition
On 27th January we held our annual Scots Verse competition. Staff were delighted that Mr Mike Duguid was once again able to visit the school and listen to the pupils reciting their poems and decide the first, second and third places in each year group. The pupils who were given a place will receive their certificates at the Burns Lunch. Well done to all the pupils involved!

Silent Night
P5-7 performed ‘Silent Night’ for parents and friends of Kells on Thursday 15th December. The show told the story of how the well-known song was composed. P1-3 were the opening act and sang a medley of Christmas songs. They also joined the P5-7 pupils on stage for the Nativity tableau finale.
Here are some photographs of the children in action.
Book Week Scotland 2016
Mrs Banner, Glenkens Cluster School Librarian, presented the Book Bug Bags for the P1 children at Kells last Friday to celebrate Book Week Scotland. Earlier in the week the P7 pupils read the three stories to the P1 pupils and then they voted for their favourite. Mrs Banner will now send all the votes from the Cluster to Book Week Scotland so that a national winner can be announced in January.
The P2 and P3 pupils also received Read Write Count Bags this year.
I am sure they will all enjoy reading the books and playing the number games with members of their family.
November Fundraising
The pupils at Kells collected £22.24 by selling poppies in the school. This year the Poppy Scotland Appeal in New Galloway raised a total of £296.68.
The pupils decided to have a ‘Wear What You Want Day’ for Children in Need on the 18th November. £53.16 was raised for this very worthwhile charity.
Well done everyone!
