P5 Cluster Carlingwark Residential

Pupils from the P5 classes of Carsphairn, Dalry and Kells visited Carlingwark Outdoor Centre in Castle Douglas for an overnight residential on 12th and 13th of September.

On the first day the pupils walked up Screel Hill, near Palnackie. The pupils found the walk challenging in sections, but rewarding with a great view of Auchencairn Bay before the mist descended.

Unfortunately due to poor water quality we could not go sailing on Carlingwark Loch. The outdoor leaders back up plan was canoeing and kayaking in the River Dee, next to the Loch Ken Holiday Park.

The trip was a great opportunity for the pupils from the Glenkens cluster to be involved in new experiences, work together on challenging tasks and make new friends.

Active Games 2013

The netball team from Kells Primary represented the Glenkens Cluster at the Active Games on the 7th September in Dumfries. The girls took part in the opening ceremony at the David Keswick Centre then were taken to DG One for the netball tournament. The girls were very unlucky not to qualify from the group stages. They were tied with Stranraer on points, but were eliminated on goal difference. Great effort girls! You were a credit to the school.

Sports Day 2013

On Wednesday 5th June Kells held their annual Sports Day. We were very lucky with the weather as you can see from the photographs below. The pupils all gave 100% during all the activities and races, plus they gave each other lots of encouragement.

The scores were as follows –

1st Clatteringshaws 455 points

2nd Kenmure 423 points

3rd Bennan 422 points

Well done to the pupils of Clatteringshaws!

Bikeability

Laura, Charlotte, Eva and James recently completed the Bikeability Scheme with our trained volunteers, Mrs June Hay and Mrs Catherine Phillips. The training sessions focussed on different aspects of bike control. There will be opportunities for other children to participate in the Bikeability Scheme in the Spring. Well done to the pupils involved plus a big thank you to our cycling trainers.

Dalry Small School Sports 2012

Kells Primary participated in the annual Dalry Small School Sports event. Great fun was had by all the pupils even though the weather was not very good. The three events were rugby, netball and rounders. The girls in the netball team played very well and retained the netball trophy. Well done to all the pupils involved from Kells for your effort, enthusiasm and also the sporting manner in which you played!

Sports Day 2012

The pupils recently enjoyed the annual Sports Day event. Mrs Johnstone, our PE teacher, organised potted sports activities plus a number of traditional races for the children.  After the last race the points were added up and Clatteringshaws were declared the winners with 367 , Kenmure were second with 361 and Bennan were third with 357. All children were presented with either a gold, silver or bronze medal.
