Shine Star, Shine

Kells Primary children again put on another entertaining nativity performance in December. It was the turn of the P1-3 class who sang and acted their hearts out to bring us Shine Star, Shine, a heart warming tale of the star of Bethlehem who had lost her shine. the P4-7 children were the warm act this year and performed 4 fantastic acts. This was our first year to also perform our show at the Galloway Town Hall. This was a great experience for the children, who were able to reach people who would not ordinarily see them in this light. The children performed beautiful and behaved politely and respectfully at all times. The show was followed by a very successful Christmas Fair.

Remembrance Day

Kells children made there way to the New Galloway War memorial on Friday 10th November to pay their respects to those who fought and died in war. P1-3 children made 2 poppy wreaths to place on the memorial. Ruby, Izak, Jennifer, Hannah and Sophie  read out poems they had written, and Amy read out the Poem ‘In Flanders Field’. Mr Scrimshaw played The Last Post on his trumpet which added a sombre note to the occasion.

Kells children raising money for charity

Kells recently received a thank you letter and certificate from Save the Children for all the hard work they did for Den Day in June. The children raised £35.40 which is a great effort from a small school. Accepting the certificate are Kells House Captains Amy, Ruby & Freya. All the children had a great day building dens and learned many knew skills and solved many problems.

The children also had a spotacular day last Friday to raise money for Children in Need. They raised a whopping £47.78. Well done to everyone!

Elmer Day at Kells

P1-3 celebrated Elmer Day on Monday 30th September. This was the culmination of all things Elmer that the children had been working on during Term 1. The children planned a party full of games and decided to make Elmer biscuits and strawberry ice-cream to eat. Jacky very kindly came in to bake biscuits with the class and Mrs Muir helped the children with the ice-cream. All the children had written individual invitations to the children from P4-7 to join them to celebrate. The party was a great success.

Winner of our Harvest art competition

Elizabeth Spernagel was the winner of our harvest Festival art competition. Her winning painting ‘Fields of Gold’ was used on the gift tags for the food packages that Kells Primary children put together and distributed to the elderly of new Galloway. One of those who received a package, Mr Hamish Yoeman, liked the picture so much he had it framed and asked us to present it to Elizabeth. Unfortunately he was unavailable to present the picture himself, so it was presented by Mrs Muir

maths fun with Ms Kerron

As part of maths week, the pupils invited Ms Kerron to school to deliver some fun maths activities. Ms Kerron got into the spirit of the week by arriving in a pirate outfit which the children loved. The children played the Port/Starboard active game in between answering math questions. All the children had a great time and wish to thank Ms Kerron for her time.

Maths/STEM Week

As part of Maths/STEM Week the Kells pupils took part in a week long project called ‘Boats that Float’. they learned about floating and sinking, water displacement, water tension, and all things boat related. The week culminated in the children working in groups to create boats from junk modelling materials. the children then went to the local burn to float their boats. The children had a fantastic time and learned a lot in the process. next week the children will travel to the Galloway Activity Centre to use their knowledge to create rafts that float.

Library Bus

It was with great excitement that the Kells pupils visited and borrowed books from the Library Bus. Most of the children have now joined the library and can borrow books on a fortnightly basis. The Bus visits Kells ever 2nd Friday, with our next visit being on Friday 13th October. It is a brilliant way for children to see how a library works and to experience the library’s outreach program.
