On Thursday 3rd October the pupils of Primary 6 and 7 organised and hosted a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care. Posters were created, invites distributed and money boxes were also made and taken home or given to local businesses. This has resulted in over £1000 being raised for this very worthwhile charity. Thank you to all the parents and friends of the school who supported the coffee morning.

Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend the Open Evening on Thursday 26th September. Feedback has been positive so therefore this will become a regular event in the first term of the new session.
P5-7 wrote anti-bullying poems and entered them in a national competition organised by the charity ‘ Respect Me.’

‘I Wanted to Tell…’ by Florrie
I am bullied.
Every single day.
They pinch and pull me,
In every single way.
One made my leg bleed.
Another broke my heart.
They stole my diary,
And ripped it into tiny parts.
I went to bed,
And cried all night.
I felt like I,
Couldn’t take a fight.
I wanted to tell.
But I was just too sad.
I couldn’t even tell,
Mum or Dad.
I felt, if I told,
I would get into trouble.
It was as if I floated in a lonely bubble.

Bullies are the worst people who ever lived!
Bullies can crush your heart, make you sad,
or they can make you bleed right down your leg.
They can make pain in your body and you can’t get any sleep at all.
Be brave and stand up for yourself.
Her’s some advice in case you get bullied again.
Tell an adult!
Also you can tell mum and dad, so you can be safe.
So I just told you what to do, but you could say you could be bullied again.
And I would say again
Tell an adult!
So be safe and keep calm

Storyteller, Daniel Allison, visited Kells recently as part of his tour of schools as he walked the Southern Upland Way. The pupils were split into 3 groups. Each group had a 40 minute storytelling session with Daniel. He told them a variety of animal stories, ancient legends, creation tales, fairy tales and folk tales from Scotland and the rest of the world. The pupils raved about the sessions to the school staff when they returned to class.
Pupils from the P5 classes of Carsphairn, Dalry and Kells visited Carlingwark Outdoor Centre in Castle Douglas for an overnight residential on 12th and 13th of September.
On the first day the pupils walked up Screel Hill, near Palnackie. The pupils found the walk challenging in sections, but rewarding with a great view of Auchencairn Bay before the mist descended.
Unfortunately due to poor water quality we could not go sailing on Carlingwark Loch. The outdoor leaders back up plan was canoeing and kayaking in the River Dee, next to the Loch Ken Holiday Park.
The trip was a great opportunity for the pupils from the Glenkens cluster to be involved in new experiences, work together on challenging tasks and make new friends.
The netball team from Kells Primary represented the Glenkens Cluster at the Active Games on the 7th September in Dumfries. The girls took part in the opening ceremony at the David Keswick Centre then were taken to DG One for the netball tournament. The girls were very unlucky not to qualify from the group stages. They were tied with Stranraer on points, but were eliminated on goal difference. Great effort girls! You were a credit to the school.
Recently pupils from P5-7 were invited by Spalding Bowling Club in Dalry to go along for some coaching sessions by club members. The pupils enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to going back at the beginning of the new bowling season in May 2014.
