Orienteering @ Kirroughtree

Yesterday 20th June the Kells P1-3 class spent a fantastic day at Kirrroughtree Visitor Centre doing some orienteering with Lucy. Lucy was very impressed with the children’s map reading abilities and sent them off in small groups, each with an adult helper, to find all 14 check points around and in the forest. The children worked super hard, reading maps and finding all the check points. Of course there was then time to play in the wonderful play parks that Kirroughtree has to offer. Many thanks to Lucy from FCS and Jackie for driving the bus and being an adult helper. Thanks also to Sue for helping with the children.

Sports Day at Kells

Kells Primary enjoyed another active and exciting sports day yesterday, 6th June. The children worked hard to get as many house points as they could during the potted sports session, and then competed in the traditional sports day races. Children and parents cheered on the competitors with enthusiasm. The parents competed in a 3 legged race which the children found hilarious. At the end of the day Clatteringshaws was announced as the house winner of the day.

Bennan  428 points

Kenmure  447 points

Clatteringshaws  450 points

As you can see there were only 3 points between 1st and 2nd. Well done to Clatterinshaws and congratulations to all the children for showing good sportsmanship throughout the day.

P1-3 In The Garden

The P1-3 children have again been in the garden with a Community helper Jackie. they have been busy weeding our vegetable plots this week and making a list of what they want to plant. Rhubarb came on top of the list this year followed by strawberries, potatoes and beans. Many thanks to Jackie for giving up her time to help the children.

Friday Enrichment

Kells children have just started a programme of Friday Enrichment each Friday afternoon. The whole school is working together, with older children supporting and guiding the younger children in a variety of tasks. The younger children are learning a lot from the older children, with everyone really enjoying working together. So far the children have done a treasure hunt, outdoor art and outdoor maths.

Again many thanks to Mr Maxwell for allowing us to go up to the rocky hill behind the school for our annual egg roll.

Baking with Jax

The P1-3 class had a very enjoyable afternoon on Tuesday 27th March baking Easter Muffins with Jackie. The children had fun measuring out ingredients, cracking eggs, stirring and beating the batter and making delicious lemon icing. the eating of the muffins was the best part. Many thanks once again to Jackie for giving up her time to give the children at Kells the experience of cooking.
