This week we went on our Beat the Street walk, we headed over the hill to Georgetown and Calside. This time we had 2 very important people with us, PC Ruairidh Matthews and PC Simon Gleave, they were helping us cross the road safely and had a chat with us as we walked. Thanks again to all the parents/grandparents/helpers.

 

P2 and P6 were out yesterday afternoon to Beat the Street, we managed to get nearly 2000 points for our school team. We had a lovely walk along the river and because we were super fast walkers we managed to head up to the Lorburne Centre to hit another box before heading back to school. We are out again next Thursday afternoon then again in a couple of weeks! Thanks again to all the helpers, it was nice to see so many people joining in our walk.

 

P2 have been working hard since the start of term, especially with phonics and spelling. Have a look at some of our spelling words using the ‘ng’ and ‘qu’ sounds.

 

P2 were making fruit kebabs as part of their healthy eating topic. They made a list of fruits they would like on their kebabs and wrote a shopping list, Miss Cullen bought the fruit and they made their kebabs. Some even tried fruits they had never tired before. They were super tasty and we enjoyed eating them outside in the sun. We even made one to take home.

 

 

On Thursday we were lucky enough to have a visit from Ian Alexander from Dumfries Science Fair. The topics covered in the show were ‘how things go’. We learned about forces and how things move. We learned about Gravity, push, pull and air pressure through some fun experiments and demonstrations.

 

P2 are learning about collecting and displaying information. We used 2simple to make a graph yesterday and today we took our learning outside. We ‘collected’ our information from the forest and displayed it in a graph.

We then used the information to answer questions and even made some of our own up!

We had to do some tricky maths to work that out …24 + 16 +15

P2 have been out in the forest for the past 3 Fridays. We have been den building, bug hunting and playing in the natural environment, we didn’t even mind the rain on weeks 2 and 3. This has been a great learning experience for the children and they have really enjoyed themselves.

 

As part of our building topic we are visiting the forest on a Friday for the next couple of weeks to have a go at building our own dens. The children had great fun using natural resources and materials to build their dens. We hope the weather stays dry for next week….

 

P2 have been learning about recycling and different building and what they are used for. Their homework challenge was to build a 3D model of a famous landmark whether it was local or from around the world. What super effort we had for everyone. P3 and P4 came for a visit and the P2’s were able to tell them all about their buildings and how they made them.

 

Today P2 had their Celebration of Learning. Parents and Grandparents came in to see what we have been learning and how. P2 entertained their audience with a French days of the week song and a Scots poem. Everyone took part in the Go Noodle brain break too. We had lots of activities to show how we learn in different areas of the curriculum.
