P6 and P7 have been bringing donations for the foodbank to school as part of their reverse advent calendar – we donated to D&G LIFT which helps local families – we thank everyone for their support and are encouraged to see the generosity of our families to help those less fortunate in our local community. Thank you!

Primary 7 get active
P7 have had a busy day today – half the class got to work with Active Schools on their play leaders course, this is where they learn leadership skills that they will put into action later in the year. The other half will complete their session next week. This afternoon we had a hockey refresher session and quickly remembered the skills from the end of P6 and got straight to playing games against each other!
Primary 7 – start of term 1
Primary 7 have been busy since returning to school. We have been fitness instructors at PE and putting each other through a workout and have been enjoying time in the forest playing games and creating portraits. We have been writing our house Captain speeches and presented them yesterday. A great start to the year P7, what a busy bunch!

P7 Reverse Advent Calendar
Over the month of December, P7 brought in items to be donated to those in need in our region over the Christmas period. We collected many items including toiletries, food and baby things and we dropped them in at The Oasis Centre, Dumfries. They were made into hampers to go to families who may be struggling for the necessities during the Christmas holidays. Well done P7, a very thoughtful act of kindness.
P7 Operation Safety
On Friday P7 went to Operation Safety at the old hospital. It is an event where they can have a hands on safety education delivered by Police, Fire and Ambulance as well as Scottish Power energy services. We learned about how to be safe in our homes and spotted fire hazards in a bedsit and kitchen area. We also spoke about what to do if there was ever a fire in the home or building. We also learned about firework safety and how to keep ourselves safe. In the Police Scotland room we learned about internet safety and how information can be shared on line. We also took part in a scenario situation where someone had had an accident in the home, through the ambulance service we learned about making sure the area is safe and what to say when phoning 999. We also learned how to put someone into the recovery position. In the Scottish Power input we found out about how electricity gets into our homes and discussed how we use electricity. We also discussed the hazards overhead lines and electricity generators can be. We had a great day and Sophia and Caleb won the quiz at the end.
