Speech Making Success

Once again our school has performed extremely well in the Dumfries Rotary Club annual speech making completion for schools. Four of the nine finalists came from St. Andrew’s after qualifying in the previous round. Last night saw the final taking place once again, with St. Andrew’s pupils taking first and second place. All who took part demonstrated a confidence in front of a large audience that was commendable. Their passion for the subject matter- ‘the future of our planet’- gave hope to us all. Well done to George, Maya, Sophia and Caleb

This week’s Standard has some nice coverage of our garden project work with the students and staff of Tennessee Tech. Our new American friends have been helping us with new raised beds, bug hotels and composters as well as giving advice about how food production and appreciation might play a more important part in our curriculum for all.

P1 Enrolment

Enrolment of pupils due to start school in August this year will take place in school on Monday 14th of January and Tuesday the 15th of January. All enrolments take place in your catchment school, no matter which school you wish your child to go to. That means that only baptized Catholic children from the St. Andrew’s catchment area should actually enroll in our school next week. Anyone from outside our catchment wishing to send their child to St. Andrew’s will need to make a placement request by doing so at their own catchment school. If any of this is unclear you can contact our school office for clarification.

St. Marcellin Champagnat Trophy

Our annual football match for the St. Marcellin Champagnat Trophy took place today against St. Teresa’s Primary. The game took place at Maryfield with the players in each side giving everything. With a selection of players from various classes, St. Andrew’s managed to retain the trophy convincingly by a score of 11-3, despite St. Teresa’s being able to field an older,  physically stronger team. Well done to all. The game was played in a super spirit, with Miss Blount, head teacher of St. Teresa’s handing over the trophy to the St. Andrew’s team captain, Tomas.

Walk to Whithorn Part 2 – Crocketford to New Galloway

6:20am start to walk today. Stunning weather so early morning kept things cool. Over the hills via Corsock and Balmaclellan to New Galloway. 15 miles and 5 hours of walking. Finished with fruit crumble and ice cream in cafe whilst trying not to show that my feet were crying. Thought I’d walked a bit far when I saw the emu. Anyway, the long leg to Newton Stewart is next weekend’s target.
