P4/5 Stirling Castle and Bannockburn

Stirling 2016 016 — Unicorns on the roof of the Great Hall

Stirling 2016 012 — The kitchen in the Great Hall looked very different from our kitchens today.

Stirling 2016 019 — The roof of the Great Hall has recently been replaced using only wood and wooden pegs.

Stirling 2016 046 — P4/5 standing on Stirling Auld Bridge with Bruce the Beltie (can you spot him?)

Stirling 2016 038 — A unicorn on a wall in the Palace. The unicorn is the national animal of Scotland.

Stirling 2016 004 — Looking out from Stirling Castle where they used to protect the castle from their enemies by pouring hot oil over the edge of the walls.

Stirling 2016 047 — P4/5 standing on Stirling Auld Bridge. This bridge was built later as the original bridge used in the battle was a timber bridge which was cut down by………….the English army (and collapsed under the weight of the soldiers). Can you spot Bruce the Beltie?

On Monday 6th June P4/5 went on a trip to Stirling Castle and Bannockburn as part of their topic on The Scottish Wars of Independence. The children had a brilliant time and learned lots from Mark and Lesley from Solway Tours. The children behaved perfectly and were a credit to the school.

Family Fun Thanks

We want to say a big thank you to all those who organised and came to our annual Family Fun evening last Friday. On a night when the weather threatened but failed to wash us all away, people still turned up in considerable numbers. All seemed to have a good evening. As a whole £1656:75 was raised. Thanks to Mel and all her team!

Football Success

We have continued to see improvements in our school football teams. Last week we had three teams competing in the various Queen of the South competitions at the indoor arena. All performed well. All gave of their best. That is always the case but now there is real awareness and style from each of them. Well done to all!!
