The Big Pedal

Staff and pupils cycling to Leswalt Primary

Leswalt Primary has got off to a great start in “The Big Pedal”.

Every day for 3 weeks pupils staff and parents will be cycling to school.    Mrs Bathgate has even been cycling all the way from Portpatrick – well done! The numbers of cyclists are entered on the website www.thebigpedal.org.uk .

After day 1 and stage one figures were calculated, Leswalt Primary was 4th in the whole of the UK (out of more than 600 schools taking part).  This is a fantastic start to the initiative.  So, keep on pedalling!

Entertaining afternoon for the community!

Primary 5-7 went to the Thursday Club yesterday afternoon to entertain members of the communitys went to the village hall to perform as individuals, and as a class.

The audience listened to Mairi playing the piano and and learned about the sport of golf from Callum and Ben.  The boys invited people to have a go at their little putting game they had set up in the hall.  Eilidh brought in her chameleon and explained how she cares for it, before passing it round. The Archibald twins also entertained by playing a few tunes on their violins.  Ben even took his bike along and explained some basic bike maintenence! Catherine brought in some lovely swiss rolls which she had baked and this was later cut up and enjoyed by the audience, with a cup of tea. All the other pupils had their spot in front of the audience too, before the class came together to sing “Caledonia”.

Mrs Bathgate reported that this was a wonderful afternoon.  P5-7 were displaying characteristics of “Confident Individuals”.  They all left happy, with gifts of little baskets of chocolate eggs for the whole school.
