Music Festival Success

On Friday 9th March, 31 pupils from P3-7 went to Dumfries to represent Hecklegirth in the annual Music Festival competition. All pupils behaved impeccably and were a credit to the School. We came home on the Friday with three seconds, and two shields for second places in Pupil Conducting ( by Grayce in P7), Scots Singing and Boys Choir. On Saturday Joanne and Grayce from P7 performed solo performances and Joanne was placed second in Scots singing. I was very proud of every choir member, who had the confidence to stand up and sing in front of an audience. Well done!!

Cross Country Success

It was a pleasure to take 29 pupils from primary six and seven to participate in the Annandale and Eskdale large schools cross country competition in Lochmaben yesterday, 14th March. All of our pupils completed the races and were encouraging of their team mates. We also had some success. Courtney Barbour came first for P6 girls and the P6 girls team came third. Gabi Nolan cam first for the P7 girls and the P7 girls teamĀ  came second. The P7 boys team came joint third with Gretna. Well done to all pupils who participated!

The Hecklegirth Stingrays and Hecklegirth Harriers took part in a basketball competition last Tuesday at Lockerbie.Ā  All teams competed well and the Harriers ended up getting all the way to the final and winning the competition beating Newington 2 baskets to 1 in the final.Ā  Well done everyone.

Scots Poetry School Competition

Each class chose one child to recite a poem using old Scot’s language during assembly recently.Ā  The P1-3 winner was Willow Jones and the P4-7 winner was Eva Coupland.Ā  Well done girls and to all those whoĀ represented theirĀ class in the assembly.Ā  Willow and Eva will represent the school at the cluster competition on the 15th February at St Columbas Primary.

Medal and certificate winners 12/1/18

Medal winnersĀ receive the class medal by earning the most house pointsĀ during theĀ week.Ā Points can be earned for demonstrating the school’s values, hard work andĀ positive behaviours, both in school and out.

Certificates are based around the four capacities with one focus each week eg successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizensĀ or effective contributors. The teacher selects a pupil who has demonstrated achievement in this area.

Christmas Fun!

Thank you to Tesco who donated a Ā£50 voucher towards the purchase of a Xmas tree for each class. The school then held a ‘best dressed tree’ competition which P3/4 won. Their prize was a trip to the Solway CafĆ© on the last day of term.

We collected over 30 shoesboxes for the Operation Christmas Child project. Many thanks to all who donated – this will make a child very happy.

Ā£322 donated to Shelter on your behalf from our Giving Tree and retiring collection at the carol concerts. Many thanks to all those who gave. Learning Council reps Tyler and Sarah presented your donation to Wendy Hamilton from the charity.
