Sponsored Walk

Well done to all those who walked their socks off to help raise funds for outdoor play. P7 pupils organised the event and supported walkers all the way round with words of encouragement, high 5’s and water stops. Due to our busy timetable of sporting events some pupils did not manage to complete the full ten laps so will go out again with P7 tomorrow morning.

Please send in sponsorship forms and money by next Monday at the latest. A final total will be shared when all sheets are returned- please send in a blank even if you did not manage to get any sponsors this time.

Medal and certificate winners 12/1/18

Medal winners receive the class medal by earning the most house points during the week. Points can be earned for demonstrating the school’s values, hard work and positive behaviours, both in school and out.

Certificates are based around the four capacities with one focus each week eg successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens or effective contributors. The teacher selects a pupil who has demonstrated achievement in this area.

Bethlehem the Musical- Tuesday!

We have a few spare tickets left for Tuesday’s matinee performance at 1.30pm- please call office to book. No tickets left for the evening performance – it’s a sell-out! A couple of wee things to remember:

  • bring costumes if not already in school
  • collect pupils from classrooms after performances- those attending the matinee can take pupils home and the others will be dismissed as usual at 3pm.
  • Pupils to be back in school for 6pm for evening performance. If family are not attending evening performance please collect from class at approx. 7.30pm.
  • retiring collection in aid of SHELTER
  • If you have a young child watching with you and they become unsettled, please feel free to move out of the hall to settle them

A few photos to whet your appetite!

School Break-In

It is with much sadness that I report to you of a break-in school last weekend. Lap-tops, I-pads, hard drives and walkie-talkies are among the items taken. Every room was entered and items were removed using the green recycling bags, of all things! The locked doors in the staffroom and Headteacher’s office were broken down to allow them further access.

We are most grateful to our local police and CID for their support throughout the day, their quick retrieval of many of the stolen items and subsequent arrest of the culprits. Our records show that 249 texts were sent and delivered at 7.40am by the school office with only 7 not receiving this, mostly due to signal problems and old mobile numbers being on record. Thankyou for your support and understanding at such short notice- it is very much appreciated.

Our pupils and staff are very upset at the intrusion of the school and the theft of our resources, some of which were purchased through fund-raising. However our school community is united in not allowing the poor decisions of others affect the positive futures of our young people! Aim high, Hecklegirth!

Family Conversations

Thankyou to all those who attended our family conversations event. Teachers, pupils and parents/carers agreed new targets for the new year and these will be photocopied and sent out to you by the end of term. For those not attending, targets will be discussed in class with your child and a copy sent home for your information.

Primary 1 have enjoyed their first day in their new classroom.

Away ahead of schedule, Mrs Lindsay and P2/1 have moved round to their new classroom this morning after collecting their indoor shoes and PE kits from their old room. This class will be lining up at their new door with the other classes from the start of next term.

Thankyou to staff for their hard work during and after the school day to help get us up and running with minimum disruption- we have made time up even over this week since our letter went out! You can see by their happy faces that P2/1 are pleased with the move!

Bye Bye Bobby!

A huge thankyou to our Lollipop Man, Bobby, who hangs up his crossing patrol jacket and Lollipop today. He is retiring from this post and we wish him health and happiness for the future. Thankyou from keeping all the boys and girls at Hecklegirth safe over the years.

New Leaders for our Learning Council

Congratulations to Tyler Graham and Sarah Latimer who will be our new Learning Council leaders.  This is the new name for the Pupil Council and we hope to get one pupils from each class to join us and help Hecklegirth aim high! Posters are up around the school and we will drop into classes soon to find out if you would like to come along to our group interviews to help us find the group of learners who work best together to come up with ideas and solutions.
