Blog Visitors

After setting up our blog in October 2010 to provide an opportunity for families to gain an insight into the life of Nursery, we added a Clustrmaps counter in April 2011 to measure the number of visitors to our site and we are delighted to say that we have now had more than 33 000 visitors in that time. If you click on the small map, further down this page on the right, you can see that we have had visitors from 66 countries as well as the United Kingdom. We are particularly delighted to have had 106 visitors from Poland and hope that we are helping some of our children’s families to keep in touch with what’s happening in our Nursery, despite living far away.

We really appreciate the comments on our posts as this, hopefully, helps to make it a fun, shared site for everyone. Thank you for your support in keeping our blog active. We hope that you find it helpful.

Money Magic

Recently the afternoon children had a visit from the Financial Education Officer to talk about what we do with money and to help them in their work on coin recognition. They loved the story just as much as the morning children had earlier this year and took part enthusiastically in helping to tell the story. Bev’s huge purse held the children’s interest and they too enjoyed the magic of coin rubbing. We would like to thank Bev for her visit and look forward to seeing her again next year.

Easter In Poland

The morning children recently enjoyed a visit from Suzie’s Mum who told us all about how Easter is celebrated in Poland. Some of the traditions are similar to ours, such as Easter cards and decorated boiled eggs, but her family also makes decorations for their home and the church is usually decorated with flowers. We loved some of the decorations that Suzie’s great aunt made from paper and it was very kind of her to make us a beautiful bird to display in Nursery. Suzie’s family in Poland take food to church in a decorated basket and, once the food has been blessed, it is part of a big celebration meal which normally includes ham and eggs.
We would like to thank Suzie’s Mum for taking the time to talk to us about Easter in Poland. It was very interesting for children and staff.

Fire Fighting In Nursery

A fire fighter recently visited Nursery to talk about his job and about how to stay safe in a fire. As well as learning about the dangers of matches through a story, the children enjoyed fun games to help them remember to stay low in a fire as they crawled under makeshift smoke in the form of a billowing parachute.
Some children tried out a jacket and helmet for size and had some good ideas about why a fire fighter needs different parts of his/her uniform to stay safe. We think that quite a few of the children like the idea of being our fire fighters of the future and they certainly look the part.

What Job Will You Do?

Doctors, nurses and patients have been filling the hospital in the Rainbow Room this week. At one point Mrs. Alexander paid a little visit for a check-up and we are pleased to say that the children sent her off fit and healthy. We feel sure that we have some future doctors and nurses in our Nursery as they have been looking after their patients so well.
To help the children learn more about the world of medicine, we also had a surprise visit one morning from Armana and Harper’s Papa who works as a paramedic. The children enjoyed learning all about the equipment he uses in his job and were excited to see inside the ambulance which he kindly brought to Nursery. Our visiting paramedic hopes to be able to call in another day to talk to the afternoon children so we should see him again soon.

Buddy Chat

The Primary 6 children have been visiting Nursery for some time now and are developing into kind and helpful buddies. Last week they came to chat to some of the children about a joint project. They listened to the ideas of the Nursery children and have gone back to their classroom to plan a game that they will be able to play together. Here you can see some of the buddies in action chatting to our Nursery children. Thank you for being good listeners Primary 6 – we are looking forward to you showing the children what you come up with as an activity.

Learning About Money

Last week the morning children had a visit from the Financial Education Officer who provided a range of activities to involve the children in thinking about money and how we use it.
It comes as no surprise that they had lots of ideas about how they like to spend money and they enjoyed taking part in the interactive reading session which included lots of rhyme and actions. There was an activity to learn about the value of different coins and the children then had great fun making rubbings of coins. Thank you very much to Bev, the Financial Education Officer. We look forward to your visit next term when the afternoon children will enjoy learning about money with you.

Blog Visitors

It seems a long time since the early days of our blog in October 2010 but in that time it has grown, providing an opportunity for families to gain an insight into the life of our Nursery.
In April 2011 we added a Clustrmaps counter to measure the number of visitors to our site and we are delighted to say that we have now had more than 30 000 visitors in that time. If you click on the small map, further down this page on the right, you can see that we have had visitors from 64 countries. We are particularly delighted to have had 101 visitors from Poland and hope that we are helping some of our children’s families to keep in touch with what’s happening in our Nursery, despite living far away.
We really appreciate the comments on our posts as this, hopefully, helps to make it a fun, shared site for everyone. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our blog active. We hope that you find it helpful.

Buddies

As part of our transition work, Primary 6 children visit Nursery every week to play and build relationships with our children. They have worked on what makes a good buddy and are showing great enthusiasm and skills with the younger children. Thank you Primary 6 and those children from Primary 7/6 who have been doing a great job. Keep up the good work – the Nursery children enjoy your visits.

Christmas Celebration

We hope that you are all looking forward to our Christmas celebration later this week. Afternoon parents can join us on Wednesday (17.12.14) at 2.30 and morning parents on Thursday (18.12.14) at 11.30. The Nursery door will be opened for entry through the usual entrance and parents/carers can park in the John Bell car park.
We are keeping our Christmas celebration informal to encourage the children to enjoy a relaxed and happy performance of the songs they have been learning. Rev. McGougan has kindly agreed to join us again, despite a jam-packed diary, and we are delighted that many of our families have indicated that they would like to be part of our celebration. As you can see, the children are practising to make sure you enjoy their songs. We look forward to seeing you later this week.
