Life on a Farm

One of our visitors during last week’s World of Work activities was Jim’s Mum who told the children about her work on the farm. We appreciated the time she had taken to bring photos of the farm and the animals as well as some samples of animal food which you can see the children examining in several photos. Some children thought that the cow’s food didn’t smell very nice but Ben pointed out “That’s ’cause it’s for cows. They like it”. Thank you to Jim’s Mum for providing the children with a great insight into working life on a farm.

Fire Officer Visit

Jenson’s Dad does a job that lots of Nursery children aspire to so we were delighted when he came in to talk to them as part of our World of Work week, explaining what fire officers do and why they need to wear a special uniform. He also very kindly arranged for the fire engine to be there in the morning which helped the children to understand what equipment the engine carries and what it is used for. Huge thanks to Jenson’s Dad for giving us so much of his time – the children thoroughly enjoyed your visit and learned about the world of work first hand.

Countryside Ranger

rangerAfter learning about the type of work that a nurse does, it was interesting and quite different to hear about a Countryside Ranger’s job.
The children had to work out which animals Duncan might look after in his work which was tricky but good fun and we heard about all the important work he does in the woods near Annan. The children seemed to like the sound of a ranger’s job even after some had realised that a Countryside Ranger is not quite the same as a Power Ranger.

What Does A Nurse Do?

The afternoon children had a visit earlier this week from a nurse who talked to them about her job and what it involves. Janet also brought along an exciting bag of equipment and the children had to put on their thinking caps to work out what each piece of equipment might be used for. We had some thoughtful answers and everyone was interested to have a look at the equipment closely. Thank you very much to Janet for an interesting visit which made the children think about what a nurse does in their job.

Story Time

Bethany’s family likes the photos of Primary 2 reading their stories in Nursery:

“Bethany was very excited because she was able to read her story to her little brother! Noah seemed to enjoy it too!”

Thank you to Primary 2 and Mrs. Mahon for a great visit. It was lovely to see some brothers and sisters reading together and all the children seemed to enjoy your visit.

“That’s Not My Teddy”

Primary 2 has been very busy lately, writing their own version of the story “That’s Not My Teddy”. Not only was each child an author but an illustrator too, as they designed their own teddy characters in their stories. The final books looked wonderful and Primary 2 children kindly visited us one afternoon recently to read their stories to Nursery children. Well done all the boys and girls from Primary 2. We think that you are super authors and illustrators and the Nursery children thoroughly enjoyed your visit.

Musical Magic

The Rainbow Room children were very lucky recently to hear some genuine Scottish fiddle music when James’ Mum came in to play for us. They learned lots about the fiddle and seemed particularly surprised to learn that the hair on the bow was from a horse’s tail. They saw what music looks like and enjoyed clapping along to a great variety of Scottish tunes. We talked about how different pieces made us feel and James Mum was even kind enough to play “Three Craws” so that we could all sing along. Just when we thought that there was nothing left to be amazed at, James’ Mum produced a penny whistle and let us hear what that sounded like.
We would like to thank James’ Mum very much for spending time with us and providing the children with a great experience. Thank you also to her superb assistant James who was so good at holding the music and made a great attempt at being a musician himself. We look forward to hearing his performances when he is a little older.

Football Fun

Coconuts, monkeys and ants are all part of learning to develop football skills with Ross Murray, SFA coach, who has been providing lots of fun in the hall for our children. As well as learning to control and stop the football, they are developing their listening skills as they follow Ross’ instructions to catch the ants or crack the coconuts. Ross will be back this week to carry on with his fun activities.

Come and Play

Great teamwork with that tricky puzzle!
Great teamwork with that tricky puzzle!
The Rainbow morning children had super visitors to play with this week when Summer and Dylan’s Mums came in to play. It’s a great way to see first hand how the Nursery runs and to spend time with some delightful children who will love to play with you. Remember we have a grid up in the cloakroom area where you can add your name if you would like to come in to play. Alternatively we are always looking for helpers to come to Annan library on a Monday with us so please speak to staff if you are available to join our little trip out. Thank you to Summer and Dylan’s Mums for joining us this week. We hope that you enjoyed your visit and that you come to play again another day.
