Callum’s family has been looking at the photos from our RHET visit last week.

It was a great day. We’re glad to hear that Callum enjoyed it so much.
As promised, here is snapshot gallery of the afternoon children enjoying the activities organised last week for us by RHET. As you can see from the happy faces, they enjoyed the visit by the tractor from Carr’s and our cute little lamb visitor just as much as the morning children. Thank you again to Fiona, Mrs. Ker and Carr’s for providing a great learning experience for the children. I wonder if we have any farmers of the future here?

On Thursday of this week we had a fantastic visit from RHET (The Royal Highland Education Trust) who provided the opportunity for the children to see a tractor and a lamb close up. Although a few children were initially a little shy of our visiting lamb, by the end of the visit most were stroking and brushing him. Thank you to Mrs. Ker for giving up her time to help the children learn so much about looking after a lamb. This was an experience they will all remember.
Thanks also go to local company Carr’s for providing a shiny new tractor for the children to explore and learn about. As you can see from the happy smiles, they all loved sitting up in the cab and finding out about the different switches and how the tractor is used. They compared the wheels to themselves in size, counted the bolts and made rubbings of the numbers and letters on the tyres. It really was amazing to them all how huge the tractor was close up.
Finally we would like to thank Fiona Jamieson, the project co-ordinator, who was so helpful in arranging this visit, ensuring all Health and Safety rules were followed and that the children had a great learning experience.

As part of our learning about our community and the different jobs people do locally, we talked to the children about what jobs they might like to do in the future and we thought that you would like to hear some of their plans.
Summer: a mermaid.
Edward: a swimming teacher.
Max: a pirate.
Quinn: to have my own car and work on the computer.
George: a zookeeper.
Tom: a policeman.
Danielle: a pizza lady.
Finlay: a teacher.
Eli: an engineer that fixes things.
Owen: an astronaut.
Leah M: clean the dishes and cook.
Callum: a police officer.
Chloe: a fairy.
Theo: a king.
Brogan: a policeman. I can stop the bad guys.
Neve: a hairdresser. I like doing hair. I can curl it.
Peter: a tractor and digger driver. I can make lots of money digging holes.
Harvey M: I want to be a footballer and play for Rangers.
Enid: I want to be a fairy and do magic.
Meris: I want to be a hairdresser and cut your hair.
Noah: I want to be a football man. You have to be good at kicking.
Vinnie: a policeman. They drive fast cars.
Kyle: I want to do digging in the mud.
I wonder if any of their dreams will come true?
Learning about our community last term inspired the children to make models of some of the buildings we had talked about in Annan. After looking at photos of various familiar landmarks, they set to work in the art and craft area to make their own versions so we had our own little town comprising the police station, Greencroft Medical Centre and several other well known buildings which the children then used as part of their play. If you click on the photos to make them bigger you will see the great detail that the children put in their work.
As promised, here are the afternoon children enjoying the RSPB activities with Kirsty. We are now looking forward to keeping an eye out for all the birds visiting our garden over the next few months.
Since we had our canopy built last summer, the birds have been slowly getting a little more confident to visit our garden and the children get very excited if they come to sample some of our bird food.
This week we had a visitor who helped us learn more about the birds we might see and what they like to eat. Kirsty from the RSPB let us hear what different sounds each bird makes and we had great fun playing a game to see if we could remember their sounds to match them to the correct picture. The children got their fingers nice and sticky making fat balls for the birds using lard and seeds then they tried out the binoculars in the garden to see if any birds were close by although a little help was needed to get the binoculars the right way round. Kirsty also showed the children three different nests and talked about the birds that would use them so everyone left feeling very enthusiastic about our local birds and how to look after them.

Just like the afternoon children, those in the morning thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Tesco last week. They also worked well together in teams and carried out the various activities with enthusiasm. Thank you again to all those parents who accompanied us and to Tesco for such an informative visit and the very generous goodie bags that the children took home. We really appreciate it.
There were some very young staff working at Tesco on Thursday as Nursery children visited the store to learn about what happens in the shop and behind the scenes. They worked well in teams on their shopping tasks and had to think hard about finding different numbers of fruit and vegetables in various colours as well as the various cereal boxes on their shopping lists.
The walk-in fridge and freezer were a bit chilly for some but we soon warmed up when we donned our hats to watch pancakes being made in the bakery. This seemed to impress the children most of all as they gave a round of applause to Stuart and Leanne for being so clever at making pancakes. It was even better when they let us taste the freshly cooked pancakes in the canteen.
We would like to say huge thanks to all the staff at Tesco who were so patient and kind. The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit and we all appreciate the time you took to show them round the store. Thank you also to those tolerant staff who had their tea break disturbed in the canteen and to the parents who gave the time to make our visit possible. As well as coming to Nursery dressed a story character on World Book Day, some of the children brought in their favourite book and we paid a visit to Annan library which helped us learn a little more about our local community. After enjoying stories read by the librarian, we returned to Nursery where we shared the stories brought in from home which rounded off a lovely day for everyone.
Lots of children seemed to be familiar with the library and hopefully more may join after this visit. Thank you to all the parents who came along with us. We really appreciate your help.
