Bike Art Prizewinners

Mr. Palmer has a message for everyone about the Bike Art Competition.

Good afternoon everyone. Well done for all your Bike Art entries this week as part of our Big Pedal Competition. I was very impressed with all the entries. There were some really creative finished bikes using a wide variety of materials and household items. It was nice to see lots of you ride your bikes as well. It was a very difficult decision to decide a winner and runner up so I asked my children to help me. The winner for the Nursery and P1 competition is Emilia Baxter from P1. The runner up is Jasmin and her sister Freya from P1/2 and the Nursery. Well done girls. We will get your prizes to you as soon as we can. The winning entries will be shown on the School App shortly.

Congratulations from everyone in the Nursery too and well done all those who participated.

Bike Art Competition

We would like to remind you that today, Friday 1st May, is the last day to enter Mr. Palmer’s Bike Art competition. The challenge, if you want to take part, is to create your own ‘Bike Art’. You can use any materials from your home (ask a parent/carer to help you) to design your own special bike.

Please send your competition entry in as a picture to the school office on gw08officehecklegirt@ea.dumgal.sch.uk or email Mr. Palmer on gw08palmerchris@ea.dumgal.sch.uk by Friday 1st May.
We are looking forward to seeing all your finished entries. There will be a winner and runner up prize for Nursery-P1, P2-P4 and P5-7.

Parent Council

Hi All

Please see attached some information about Hecklegirth Parent Council, I have recently taken over as chairperson for the Parent Council alongside my existing role on the fundraising committee. I am trying to reach as many parents/carers within the school environment as possible to ensure everyone is receiving information. The next meeting will take place at 6pm in the school staffroom on Wednesday 6th November (hope to see you there).

If you need to contact the parent council you can do this via the school office, myself or email hecklegirthparentcouncil@gmail.com please also follow us on Facebook searching for Hecklegirth Primary School News.

If you need to contact for anything relating to fundraising you can do this via the school office, myself or email hecklegirthfundraisers@gmail.com please also follow us on Facebook searching for Hecklegirth Fundraisers.

Information for both is also available on the notice boards as you enter the school through the main door.

Thanks  Stacy Wigham

Hallowe’en

It was lovely to see everyone back in Nursery today and some took the chance to get in the mood for Hallowe’en. We would like to remind you that the Hallowe’en disco is on Wednesday night in the school hall from 6.00 – 7.00 for Nursery children with an entry of £1. An adult must stay with Nursery children.
As the school photographer will be in on Thursday 31st October, the children can choose to come to Nursery dressed up on Friday 1st November if they wish.

Buddy Letters

Our Primary 6 buddies very kindly took the time to write letters to their Nursery child’s family so that they know a little about them and they introduced themselves to their parents/carers towards the end of term. We hope that this has eased a few of the worries you may have had about your child moving to Primary 1 and that you enjoy sharing the letters with your children.
Thank you Primary 6 children for doing a super job. The Nursery children are looking forward to seeing you again in August when they start in Primary 1.

Pre-Writing Skills

We were delighted to have so many parents joining us for our pre-writing workshop on Monday and hope that you all enjoyed the activities provided. We would like to thank Shona McGeorge and her team of Occupational Therapists, our Primary 1 teacher Miss Campbell and Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, for taking the time to provide an insight into the skills we are all trying to develop in the children to prepare them for writing. Shona kindly left a guide for pre-writing skills which everyone should now have in their trays. We hope that you find it helpful.
