Start of Term

We are looking forward to seeing everyone when Nursery starts on Thursday. It will be lovely to see the children who are returning for their second year and to get to know all our new children and their families.

We would like to remind you that morning sessions have a soft start (8.45-9.10) and children finish at 11.55 unless staying for a full day session. Afternoon children all start at 12.15 and should be collected between 3.00 and 3.25. Children attending for a full day finish at 3.05.

Please remember that, if this is your child’s first time in Nursery, we suggest he/she comes initially for one hour to help him/her to settle in. Red and green groups have been allocated 9 – 10 a.m. or 12.30 – 1.30 p.m. depending on their session. Blue and yellow groups have been allocated 10.30 – 11.30 a.m.  or 2 – 3 p.m. Your child’s group is shown on the letter you received confirming his/her place in Nursery.

We hope that you enjoy the last few days of the holidays and look forward to seeing you on Thursday.

Language Programme

For those parents who have been using our English language programme to develop their child’s communication skills, I have now added books eleven and twelve to our blog. They can be found if you click on the link on the right that says “Learning English”. Parents who will be new to Nursery in a few weeks may also find this a helpful tool.
Although initially intended for children with English as an Additional Language, this programme could be useful for any child who needs a little help and encouragement to develop his/her language skills. We hope that these new books are useful to support your child’s learning at home.

Happy Reading

We hope that you are all enjoying your summer holiday with your families and that some of you are taking part in our Family Learning Reading Challenge. Lots of the suggestions look like great fun. I wonder if anyone’s read under a table or to their pet yet? Sitting on the grass or on a rug to read also sounds like a lovely challenge for sunny days. Remember to fill in the challenge sheet and return it to Nursery or your Primary 1 teacher by Friday 28th August to enter the prize draw to win a book token. Happy reading everyone!

Award Winner

Sophie’s family is delighted to see her photo with the award she received for being a super team worker:

“sophie was chuffed to bits to win this award we are all very proud of her we have her photo blown up and put onto the wall, she will miss all her nursery teachers very much but is really looking forward to starting p1”

Well done Sophie – you really deserved this award. We will miss all those moving to Primary 1 too but hope that we will see you at some point in the future.

Graduation Day Take Two

Just as in the morning, the afternoon children showed themselves to be confident individuals at their graduation ceremony on Tuesday and we loved the happy smiles on everybody’s face. We would like to thank Mr. Palmer for presenting the children with their certificates and for taking the time to ensure that every family was able to get a photo of their child on stage. Thank you also to all the family and friends who formed a great audience – we really appreciate your support.

Graduation Day

How proud we all were of the children at our graduation ceremonies yesterday as they sang and danced to celebrate their achievements this year in Nursery. The morning children looked particularly  grown-up in the fantastic caps that Theo’s Mum kindly made for every single child. No doubt these will be fond mementos to keep as a reminder of a special day so huge thanks to Theo’s Mummy for all her hard work.

The children showed great confidence to perform to their families and then to walk on stage on their own to shake hands and receive their certificates. Thank you to Mrs. Alexander for taking time to present each child with their award – we think her knees must have been very sore by the end of the day. Thank you also to all the family and friends who attended our little ceremony and for your support throughout the year.

Here is a gallery of the morning children. I will put photos of the afternoon children on as soon as possible. Click the click again for a clearer view of the photos.

School Lunch

Children moving to several local schools had an opportunity this week to sample a school lunch. At Hecklegirth parents joined their children who enjoyed hot dogs and chips or a delicious sandwich along with fruit or a little bag of vegetables. The ice-cream and jelly dessert looked particularly tasty and seemed to go down well with most children. Hopefully, everyone now knows what happens in the dinner hall and is looking forward to their school lunches when they come to Primary 1 in August.

Family Visitors

Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who were able to take the time today to bring their children for a visit to Nursery. Lots of children have been visiting with playgroups over the past few weeks but it was lovely to see them with their families today and we were impressed with how confident the children were. We look forward to seeing you all again in August.
